As an Applied Scientist I at Amazon, you will apply your expertise in areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, or related disciplines to build solutions that directly impact millions of customers. You will design experiments, develop models, and deploy production-ready code that bridges the gap between academic research and practical business outcomes. Key job responsibilities

- Design, develop, and implement machine learning models and algorithms to address well-defined business problems, mapping business goals to scientific approaches and translating business metrics into measurable scientific objectives.
- Conduct experiments and evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics, iterating on solutions to improve accuracy, efficiency, and customer impact while following scientific best practices.
- Write secure, reliable, and maintainable production-quality code using optimal data structures and algorithms, ensuring your solutions meet engineering standards and are reproducible by other scientists and developers.
- Collaborate with senior scientists and cross-functional team members to scope projects, refine approaches, and integrate scientific components into broader product systems, clearly communicating your findings through documentation and technical reports.
- Stay current with research trends in your area of expertise, benchmarking your results against the latest methodologies and contributing to internal knowledge-sharing to raise the scientific bar across your team.





A day in the life You will start your day reviewing experiment results and refining your models based on new data insights. You might pair with a senior scientist to discuss alternative approaches to a tricky optimization problem, then shift to writing and testing code that moves a promising prototype closer to production. Expect to participate in design reviews, share your learnings with teammates, and occasionally mentor interns who are ramping up on the team's scientific tools and methods.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application
- Experience in solving business problems through machine learning, data mining and statistical algorithms

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience implementing algorithms using both toolkits and self-developed code
- Have publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
