About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and result-oriented Farm Manager to manage the complete farm operations, with a specific focus on the planning, cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest management of exotic vegetables and fruits.

The Farm Manager will be responsible for developing seasonal cultivation plans, selecting suitable crops and varieties, managing soil and water resources, supervising farm workers, implementing contemporary agricultural practices, and ensuring high-quality and commercially viable production.

The ideal candidate should have practical experience in exotic vegetable cultivation, fruit plantation, protected cultivation, irrigation and fertigation, pest and disease management, and farm operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Crop Planning & Farm Development

- Develop annual and seasonal crop cultivation plans based on climate, soil conditions, water availability, market demand, and profitability.
- Select suitable varieties of exotic vegetables and fruits based on local agro-climatic conditions and market requirements.
- Prepare crop-wise plans covering land preparation, nursery/seed procurement, sowing/planting, fertigation, crop protection, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
- Plan crop rotation and succession planting to ensure continuous and efficient farm utilization.
- Develop plantation plans for new fruit crops, including spacing, layout, irrigation requirements, support systems, and expected yield.
- Evaluate opportunities for introducing new exotic crops and varieties.
- Maintain proper records of crop cycles, planting dates, input usage, yields, and crop performance.

2. Cultivation & Crop Management

- Supervise day-to-day cultivation activities for exotic vegetables and fruit crops.
- Monitor crop growth and ensure timely execution of agricultural practices.
- Manage nursery operations, seedling production, transplantation, pruning, training, staking, mulching, and other crop-specific activities.
- Ensure appropriate use of fertilizers, micronutrients, bio-inputs, and other agricultural inputs.
- Implement drip irrigation and fertigation programs according to crop requirements.
- Monitor soil moisture, plant health,



nutrient requirements, and overall crop development.
- Develop suitable cultivation protocols for different crops and maintain standard operating procedures.

3. Pest & Disease Management

- Regularly inspect crops for pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and other crop-health issues.
- Develop and implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
- Coordinate with agricultural consultants, agronomists, and crop experts when required.
- Ensure proper and safe application of pesticides, fungicides, bio-pesticides, and other crop-protection products.
- Maintain records of pest and disease incidence and treatment applications.
- Ensure compliance with applicable food safety and agricultural standards.

4. Fruit Plantation Management

- Plan and manage plantations of exotic and high-value fruit crops.
- Supervise land preparation, pit preparation, planting, staking, training, pruning, and canopy management.
- Develop irrigation, nutrition, and crop-protection schedules for fruit plantations.
- Monitor flowering, fruit setting, fruit development, and maturity.
- Implement appropriate practices to improve fruit quality, size, yield, and marketability.
- Plan harvesting schedules according to crop maturity and customer requirements.

5. Farm Infrastructure & Resources

- Manage farm infrastructure including irrigation systems, fertigation systems, greenhouses/polyhouses, shade nets, nurseries, farm roads, storage areas, and other facilities.
- Ensure efficient utilization and maintenance of agricultural equipment and machinery.
- Monitor water resources and implement efficient water-management practices.
- Manage farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, growing media, packaging materials, and other consumables.
- Maintain proper inventory and minimize wastage of farm inputs.

6. Harvesting & Post-Harvest Management

- Plan harvesting schedules based on crop maturity,



market demand, and customer specifications.
- Ensure proper harvesting, grading, sorting, cleaning, and handling of produce.
- Minimize crop damage and post-harvest losses.
- Coordinate with packing, cold-storage, logistics, and sales teams.
- Maintain records of harvest quantity, grade, quality, rejection, and wastage.
- Ensure produce meets required quality standards before dispatch.

7. Farm Cost & Performance Management

- Prepare and monitor crop-wise budgets and cost of cultivation.
- Track expenses related to seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, labour, irrigation, machinery, and other inputs.
- Monitor crop yield and productivity against planned targets.
- Identify opportunities to reduce input costs and improve farm profitability.
- Prepare regular reports on crop performance, farm expenses, yield, and profitability.
- Analyze crop-wise cost per kg, yield per acre/hectare, and gross margins.

8. Market & Commercial Coordination

- Coordinate with the sales and procurement teams to understand market demand and customer requirements.
- Recommend crops and varieties based on market trends and commercial potential.
- Support planning of production according to confirmed or expected market demand.
- Monitor market trends for exotic vegetables and fruits.
- Explore opportunities for contract farming, premium retail, hotels, restaurants, exporters, and institutional customers where applicable.

Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree/diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Practical experience in farm management, preferably with exotic vegetables and/or high-value fruit crops.
- Strong knowledge of crop planning, cultivation practices, irrigation, fertigation, and crop protection.
- Experience in managing farm labour and day-to-day agricultural operations.
- Good understanding of soil health, plant nutrition, pest and disease management.
- Ability to prepare crop schedules, farm budgets, and operational reports.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and team-management abilities.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Willingness to work in a farm environment and manage field operations hands-on.
