About The Venture Chronicle The Venture Chronicle is a digital publication documenting innovation across global startup ecosystems. We cover founders, investors, and emerging technology, spanning AI, deeptech, fintech, climate tech, biotech, and enterprise software.
Our job is to explain market shifts and technical breakthroughs clearly, with the data to back them. The team works remotely, at the point where data, storytelling, and technology meet.
The Role
We are hiring a Data Analyst to build the numbers behind the reporting.
Anyone can write that a sector is heating up. We want to show it. That means building and maintaining real datasets on startups, funding rounds, investors, and sectors, then using them to find the stories nobody else has spotted yet: the round that signals a shift, the pattern across a quarter, the claim in a press release that the data does not support.
The second half of the job is audience. You will track what gets read, what converts a casual reader into a regular one, and which coverage is worth more of our time. Editors will bring you questions, and the useful answer is often the one that tells them to stop doing something.
You will work directly with writers and editors. Your output is not a dashboard nobody opens. It is a chart in a story, a number that changes a headline, or a short memo that redirects a week of coverage.
What You Will Do
Build and maintain datasets on startups, funding rounds, investors, and technology sectors.
Collect and clean data from many sources, and keep the quality high enough to publish from.
Run the analysis behind data driven stories, and produce visualizations that can stand in a published piece.
Find patterns worth reporting: sector momentum, funding shifts, investor behavior, outliers.
Track audience and content performance, and report on what is working and what is not.
Build the dashboards and recurring reports editors and leadership actually use.
Write short, clear summaries of what the data says, for people who will not read a spreadsheet.
Work with writers and editors to pressure test claims before they get published.
What You Will Need
2 to 5 years in data analysis, research, or market intelligence.
Solid SQL, and Python or R for analysis.
Real spreadsheet ability, beyond pivot tables.
A working grasp of statistics: knowing when a pattern is real and when it is noise.
Experience building and maintaining datasets, not just querying someone else's.
Clear writing. Your findings land as sentences, not just charts.
Comfort with data visualization, whether in a BI tool or in code.
The judgment to pick the right question before running the numbers.
The self direction to manage several threads at once in a fast moving editorial cycle.
A bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with startup and venture data sources, and their gaps.
Experience in media, research, or market intelligence.
Editorial analytics: audience, retention, newsletter, and content performance.
Web scraping or building pipelines to collect data that has no clean source.
- Genuine interest in startups, venture capital, and emerging technology.
Why This Role
Most analyst jobs end at the dashboard. Here the analysis is the product. When you find something real in the data, it gets published with your work behind it, and people in the industry read it.
You will also see the startup ecosystem from an unusual angle, across sectors and stages at once, which is a hard vantage point to get anywhere else this early in a career.
Working Here
Remote, based in India. You choose where you work from.
Compensation is ₹9,00,000 to ₹18,00,000 per annum, set by experience and demonstrated analytical ability.
