Junior Database Administrator – Remote

Overview

Tangent International is seeking a Junior Database Administrator to support the maintenance, monitoring, security and performance of database environments.

This remote prospect would suit someone with foundational DBA knowledge and at least two years' database administration or IT support experience who is looking to develop within a structured IT operations environment.

Important: Candidates must be available to start within one week of receiving a job offer.

Responsibilities

- Assist with database installation, configuration and maintenance.
- Monitor database performance and availability.
- Support backup and recovery activities.
- Assist with database security, user access and permissions.
- Perform data integrity and validation checks.
- Support compliance with data governance and security policies.
- Respond to database incidents and service requests.
- Escalate complex issues with appropriate documentation.
- Apply basic database performance-tuning techniques.
- Maintain configuration, procedure and change documentation.
- Support application/API monitoring, logging and observability where required.
- Work within established IT operations and SLA processes.

Required Skills





- 2+ years' experience in database administration or IT support.
- Basic SQL and relational database knowledge.
- Experience installing and configuring databases.
- Database monitoring and availability knowledge.
- Backup and recovery experience.
- User access and permissions management.
- Data integrity and validation knowledge.
- Relevant 4-year technology/engineering degree.

- Java application runtime exposure.
- Spring Boot.
- Java APIs.
- API Gateway/API management.
- Application server monitoring.
- Logging, tracing and observability.
- Pan-African multicultural experience.
- Relevant database, cloud or ITIL certifications.
