NICU Staff Nurse – Job Description Job Summary

A NICU Staff Nurse provides specialised nursing care to premature, critically ill, and new born infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The nurse is responsible for continuous monitoring, medication administration, neonatal procedures, infection prevention, and supporting parents and families while working closely with neonatologists and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive nursing care to premature, low-birth-weight, and critically ill new borns.
- Monitor and document vital signs, oxygen saturation, blood glucose, fluid balance, and other clinical parameters.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, antibiotics, and other treatments as prescribed.
- Manage and monitor infants receiving oxygen therapy, CPAP, ventilator support, and other respiratory care.
- Assist neonatologists with procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, blood sampling, and resuscitation.
- Perform neonatal assessments and promptly identify signs of deterioration or complications.
- Maintain incubators, radiant warmers, ventilators, monitors, infusion pumps, and other NICU equipment.
- Provide feeding support, including oral, gavage, and enteral feeding as appropriate.




- Maintain strict infection prevention and control practices within the NICU.
- Maintain accurate nursing notes, medication records, observation charts, and patient documentation.
- Support neonatal resuscitation and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Provide developmental and supportive care to neonates, including positioning, thermoregulation, and minimising environmental stress.
- Educate and support parents regarding their baby's condition, treatment, feeding, hygiene, and discharge care.
- Encourage appropriate parental involvement and promote bonding, including kangaroo mother care where clinically appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with neonatologists, paediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols, medication-safety standards, and child-safeguarding requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and safety at all times.
- Participate in handovers, audits, training, and continuing career development activities.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
