Summary
We are looking for an experienced CICS System Programmer with strong expertise in IBM CICS Transaction Server on z/OS environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, performance optimization, and support of enterprise CICS environments. This role requires deep technical knowledge of CICS architecture, system programming, CICSPlex SM administration, and CICS infrastructure management to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of critical business applications.
Key Responsibilities
CICS System Programming & Administration
- Install, configure, customize, and upgrade IBM CICS Transaction Server on z/OS.
- Perform CICS region setup and administration, including AOR, FOR, TOR, and WUI environments.
- Define, maintain, and administer CICS resources using RDO, CSD, and DFHCSDUP utilities.
- Implement and manage CICS configurations in accordance with enterprise standards and best practices.
- Support the deployment and migration of CICS applications across development, test, and production environments.
- Ensure the availability, stability, and resilience of business-critical CICS services.
CICSPlex SM Administration
- Configure, administer, and maintain CICSPlex SM environments.
- Manage CMAS, MAS, BAS, and WUI components.
- Support workload management and dynamic routing within large-scale CICS environments.
- Monitor and maintain CICSPlex SM configurations to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Implement automation and operational efficiencies using CICSPlex capabilities.
System Maintenance & Upgrades
- Perform CICS-related SMP/E maintenance, including application of PTFs, APARs, and version upgrades.
- Coordinate CICS software installations, migrations, and release activities.
- Maintain system documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
- Perform impact assessments and testing for CICS maintenance activities.
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution for CICS environments.
Performance Management & Problem Resolution
- Analyze and optimize CICS performance through tuning and capacity planning activities.
- Diagnose and resolve complex CICS system issues, abends, dumps, storage violations, and performance bottlenecks.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent solutions for recurring issues.
- Support major incident management and service restoration activities.
- Identify opportunities for system optimization and operational improvement.
Operational & Technical Support
- Provide Level 3 support for CICS infrastructure and middleware-related incidents.
- Collaborate with z/OS System Programmers, Application Support teams, DB2, IMS, and Middleware teams.
- Support implementation activities during planned maintenance windows.
- Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical enterprise systems.
- Ensure compliance with security, audit, and regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with Infrastructure, Application, Middleware, and Operations teams.
- Communicate technical issues, maintenance activities, and risk assessments to stakeholders.
- Participate in technical reviews, governance meetings, and project discussions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.
Process & Governance
- Adhere to ITIL processes including Incident, Change, Problem, and Release Management.
- Maintain compliance with enterprise security and operational policies.
- Utilize enterprise tools for monitoring, logging, and incident management.
- Support audit, compliance, and governance activities as required.
Required Skills
- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in Mainframe System Programming environments.
- Proven hands-on experience supporting enterprise CICS environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills within production support environments.
- Experience working in large-scale, business-critical enterprise infrastructures.

- Understanding of z/OS system programming concepts.
- ITIL Foundation Certification.
- Experience in financial services, banking, insurance, or other highly regulated industries.
- Agile and DevOps delivery experience.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
