We work closely with brokers, cedants and partners to deliver responsive, commercially sound solutions across Property & Engineering, Casualty & Liability, Marine & Aviation, Financial Lines and selected Specialty risks.

We are expanding our underwriting team in Kigali and are looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter who combines strong technical judgement with commercial awareness and the ability to build long-term market relationships.

The Role

As Senior Underwriter, you will take ownership of the assessment, pricing, structuring and negotiation of facultative reinsurance opportunities across international markets.

You will be expected to make disciplined underwriting decisions, manage your portfolio actively and work directly with brokers, cedants and internal stakeholders from submission through placement and renewal.

Key responsibilities include:

- Underwrite and assess facultative reinsurance risks within agreed authority and underwriting guidelines.
- Analyse submissions, exposure information, loss records, surveys, wordings and other technical documentation.
- Determine appropriate pricing, terms, conditions, deductibles, limits and participation levels.
- Negotiate directly with brokers and cedants and provide clear, timely underwriting decisions.
- Manage renewals and monitor portfolio performance, accumulation and profitability.
- Maintain strong underwriting discipline while identifying commercially attractive opportunities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key brokers, cedants and market partners.




- Contribute to underwriting guidelines, portfolio strategy and product development.
- Work closely with Business Development, Claims, Finance and Management.
- Support the continued development of GUARANT’s underwriting processes and capabilities.

What We’re Looking For We are looking for an underwriter who can analyse the risk, make the decision and stand behind it .

You should bring

- Strong experience in insurance or reinsurance underwriting , ideally facultative business.
- Proven technical capability in risk assessment, pricing, policy/reinsurance wordings and portfolio management.
- Experience with Property & Engineering and/or other major non-life classes .
- Exposure to international or emerging markets; experience in Africa, the Middle East, Asia or Latin America is particularly relevant.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance opportunity with underwriting discipline.
- Confidence dealing directly with brokers, cedants and senior market stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation, communication and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions within delegated authority.
- Qualified fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.

Professional insurance qualifications such as ACII, CPCU or equivalent are advantageous but not essential. Why GUARANT?
