Job Title: Project Engineer
Job Purpose:
The Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and executing the complete setup of a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. This role spans the entire project lifecycle, including civil construction, electrical infrastructure, machinery installation, production process establishment, and facility landscaping. The ideal candidate will ensure the project is completed on time, within budget, and in strict compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
1. Civil Construction & Infrastructure Support
Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and civil contractors to monitor day-to-day site construction.
Ensure all civil works (foundation, flooring, structural steel, roofing) align perfectly with factory layouts and load-bearing requirements for heavy machinery.
Monitor construction milestones, inspect workmanship quality, and ensure compliance with local building codes.
2. Electrical & Utilities Installation
Oversee the installation of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, including substations, transformers, panel boards, and backup power generators.
Coordinate the setup of plant utilities such as HVAC, industrial compressed air, water treatment plants, fire-fighting systems, and plumbing.
3. Machinery & Equipment Installation
Collaborate with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and rigging teams to plan the safe unloading, positioning, leveling, and mechanical/electrical hookup of all production machinery.
Manage the pre-commissioning and dry-running of individual machines before final hand-off.
4. Production Process & Line Establishment
Work closely with the operations and process engineering teams to establish optimal production flow lines (Lean layout).
Assist in writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), conducting trial runs, and fine-tuning the production process to meet quality and capacity targets.
5. Site Landscaping & External Works
Supervise external infrastructure layout planning, including internal roads, drainage systems, security fencing, gatehouses, and green/landscaping zones to meet environmental regulations.
6. Project Management, Safety & Budgeting
Maintain and update the master project schedule (e.g., Gantt charts using MS Project/Primavera).
Enforce a zero-compromise safety culture on-site, ensuring all contractors adhere to EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) protocols.
Track project expenditures against the budget, verify contractor invoices, and manage change orders.
Desired Candidate Profile:
Education & Experience:
Educational Background: Bachelors Degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering. A certification in Project Management (PMP / PRINCE2) is a strong plus.
Experience: 4 to 8 years of proven experience in executing Greenfield (recent plant setup) or major Brownfield expansion projects within manufacturing, automotive, FMCG, or heavy engineering sectors.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
Multidisciplinary Knowledge: Strong conceptual understanding of civil foundation requirements, industrial electrical distribution, and mechanical assembly.
Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with MS Project or Primavera, and the ability to read/interpret layouts in AutoCAD.
Vendor & Contractor Management: Excellent skills in negotiating with, monitoring, and holding civil, electrical, and mechanical contractors accountable.
Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with local industrial statutory compliance, factory acts, pollution control board norms, and safety regulations.
Soft Skills & Behavioral Traits:
Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Ability to think on your feet when handling on-site construction surprises or delivery delays.
Strong Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to bridge communication gaps between corporate management, technical vendors, and on-site labor.
Resilience: Highly energetic and comfortable working in an active, dynamic construction and commissioning site environment.
