PRODUCT MANAGER – PHARMACEUTICALS
1. Position Details
Position: Product Manager
Department: Marketing
Reports To: General Manager / Head – Marketing
Location: Corporate Office / Vadodara
Industry: Pharmaceutical – Formulations
Nature of Role: Product Management, Brand Management & Marketing
2. Job Purpose The Product Manager shall be responsible for the overall management and development of the assigned pharmaceutical products/brands with the objective of achieving sales growth, profitability, market share and long-term brand value.
The incumbent shall develop and implement product and brand strategies based on market conditions, competitor activities, customer requirements, scientific developments and the overall marketing strategy of the Company.
The Product Manager shall act as a bridge between the Marketing Department, Sales Force, Medical/Scientific Team, Regulatory Affairs, Production, Purchase, Finance and other concerned departments for successful management and growth of the assigned products.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Product & Brand Management
- Take overall responsibility for the assigned products/brands from the marketing perspective.
- Develop annual brand plans and product-wise marketing strategies.
- Define product positioning, target customer segments and key product messages.
- Develop strategies for increasing product prescription, sales and market penetration.
- Monitor the complete life cycle of assigned products from launch through growth, maturity and, where appropriate, product rationalization.
- Identify opportunities for new indications, combinations, strengths, dosage forms and line extensions in coordination with the concerned departments.
- Prepare product-wise objectives, action plans and timelines.
- Regularly review the performance of individual brands and take corrective action wherever required.
B. Market Research & Analysis
- Conduct regular market research to understand:
- Market size and growth.
- Therapeutic trends.
- Prescribing patterns.
- Competitor products.
- Pricing trends.
- New product launches.
- Doctor preferences.
- Regional market opportunities.
- Analyze available pharmaceutical market data and derive meaningful business insights.
- Identify potential gaps in the Company's product portfolio.
- Study competitors' products, promotional strategies, pricing, packaging and positioning.
- Prepare periodic competitor analysis reports for Management.
C. New Product Development & Launch
- Identify and recommend potential current products based on market opportunities.
- Coordinate with the concerned departments for feasibility of new products.
- Prepare product concept notes/business proposals for Management approval.
- Assist in determining:
- Product composition.
- Brand positioning.
- Target market.
- Pricing strategy.
- Pack size.
- Promotional strategy.
- Expected sales potential.
- Coordinate with Regulatory Affairs, R&D;, Production, Purchase, Quality Assurance and other departments for timely product development.
- Prepare comprehensive launch plans for current products.
- Ensure availability of promotional and product-support materials before launch.
- Monitor initial market response after launch and recommend corrective measures.
D. Marketing Strategy
- Develop innovative marketing strategies for assigned products.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual marketing plans.
- Develop appropriate promotional themes and campaigns.
- Design product communication based on approved scientific information.
- Ensure that promotional communication is ethical, scientifically appropriate and compliant with applicable laws, regulations and Company policies.
- Develop product differentiation strategies against competing brands.
- Recommend appropriate promotional activities based on product potential and target audience.
E. Sales Force Support
- Provide effective product-related support to the Sales and Medical Representatives.
- Prepare product detailing aids, visual aids, product cards, promotional literature and other sales-support materials.
- Develop scientific and promotional inputs for sales meetings.
- Conduct product training for Medical Representatives and other members of the Sales Team.
- Explain product features, benefits, indications, dosage, precautions and competitive advantages to the Sales Team within approved scientific and regulatory parameters.
- Provide regular product updates to the field force.
- Obtain feedback from the field sales team regarding doctors' responses, competitor activities and market conditions.
- Convert relevant field feedback into actionable marketing strategies.
F. Doctor & KOL Engagement
- Develop appropriate strategies for interaction with doctors, specialists and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
- Identify significant doctors and institutions relevant to assigned therapeutic areas.
- Coordinate scientific meetings, CMEs, conferences and product-related educational activities, as approved by Management.
- Develop scientific content for doctor communication in coordination with the Medical/Scientific team.
- Monitor feedback from healthcare professionals and incorporate legitimate market insights into brand strategies.
- Maintain professional and ethical standards in all interactions with healthcare professionals.
G. Promotional Material
- Conceptualize and coordinate preparation of:
- Visual aids.
- Product cards.
- Detailing materials.
- Product literature.
- Leave-behind materials.
- Reminder items, where permissible.
- Digital promotional content.
- Training materials.
- Product presentations.
- Ensure that all promotional material is factually accurate and based on approved product information.
- Coordinate with Medical, Regulatory and Management teams for review and approval wherever required.
- Maintain proper records of approved promotional materials.
H. Digital Marketing
- Develop appropriate digital marketing initiatives for assigned products.
- Coordinate digital product campaigns, subject to Company approval and applicable regulations.
- Assist in developing digital content for doctors and the field force.
- Monitor engagement and effectiveness of approved digital initiatives.
- Explore appropriate technology-based methods for product communication and sales-force support.
I. Sales & Performance Analysis
- Review product-wise and territory-wise sales performance regularly.
- Compare actual sales against targets and budgets.
- Identify products/territories showing:
- Growth.
- Decline.
- Underperformance.
- Unusual variations.
- Analyze primary and secondary sales data wherever available.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly product performance reports.
- Recommend corrective actions for underperforming brands.
- Monitor return, expiry and near-expiry trends and coordinate with concerned departments to minimize losses.
J. Budget Management
- Prepare annual marketing budgets for assigned products.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
- Ensure optimum utilization of marketing expenditure.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and return on investment of promotional activities.
- Obtain appropriate approvals before undertaking expenditure.
- Maintain proper documentation of marketing expenses.
K. Cross-Functional Coordination The Product Manager shall maintain effective coordination with:

The Product Manager shall ensure that product-related activities are coordinated effectively and completed within the prescribed timelines. L. Inventory & Supply Coordination
- Monitor availability of assigned products in coordination with Production and Supply Chain.
- Identify potential stock-out situations and communicate them in advance.
- Monitor inventory levels against expected sales.
- Coordinate regarding product launch quantities and market requirements.
- Monitor slow-moving and non-moving products.
- Provide sales forecasts to the concerned departments.
M. Forecasting
- Prepare product-wise sales forecasts.
- Provide monthly, quarterly and annual demand estimates.
- Review forecast versus actual sales.
- Update forecasts based on market trends, seasonality, competitor activities and sales performance.
- Coordinate with Production and Supply Chain for adequate product availability.
N. Product Profitability
- Understand the cost structure and profitability of assigned products.
- Monitor product-wise sales value, contribution and profitability wherever relevant data is available.
- Recommend appropriate pricing and promotional strategies.
- Identify products with declining profitability and recommend corrective measures.
O. Compliance & Ethical Marketing
- Ensure that all product promotion is carried out strictly in accordance with applicable pharmaceutical laws, regulations, ethical marketing standards and Company policies.
- Ensure that no misleading, false, exaggerated or unsupported claims are used in promotional communications.
- Maintain confidentiality of Company information, pricing, strategies and business plans.
- Ensure that all product-related information communicated to the field force and healthcare professionals is accurate and appropriately approved.

MIS & Reporting The Product Manager shall prepare and submit, as required:
- Monthly Product Performance Report.
- Brand-wise Sales Analysis.
- Competitor Analysis Report.
- Product Launch Report.
- Marketing Activity Report.
- Promotional Expenditure Report.
- Sales Forecast.
- Annual Brand Plan.
- Product-wise Marketing Budget.
- Product Review Presentation.
- Market Intelligence Reports.
- New Product Proposal.
- Product-wise Action Taken Report.
5. Product Review Meetings
- Participate in periodic product review meetings with senior Management.
- Present product performance, market developments and future strategy.
- Explain deviations from targets and proposed corrective actions.
- Follow up on decisions taken during review meetings.
- Ensure timely implementation of approved marketing plans.
6. Team Management Where a team of Product Executives/Assistant Product Managers is assigned:
- Allocate responsibilities appropriately.
- Guide and supervise team members.
- Review their work periodically.
- Train team members on products and marketing practices.
- Set individual objectives and monitor performance.
- Develop a culture of accountability, teamwork and innovation.
7. General Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain proper records relating to assigned products.
- Ensure timely submission of reports and presentations.
- Attend Management, Marketing and Sales meetings.
- Participate in conferences, exhibitions and professional events as approved.
- Maintain confidentiality of Company and product-related information.
- Follow all Company Service Rules, policies and procedures.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Management from time to time.
8. Qualifications
Essential
- Graduate/Post Graduate in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Medicine, Chemistry or a related discipline.
- MBA/PGDM in Marketing will be an advantage.
- Valuable understanding of pharmaceutical products and the Indian pharmaceutical market.
Preferred Educational Background
- B.Pharm / M.Pharm
- B.Sc. / M.Sc. – Life Sciences
- Pharm.D
- MBA/PGDM – Marketing
9. Experience
- Preferably 3–7 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical marketing/product management.
- Experience in handling pharmaceutical brands and working with a field sales force will be preferred.
- Candidates with experience in the relevant therapeutic segment shall be given preference.

12. Authority & Accountability The Product Manager shall be accountable for the effective marketing and development of assigned products but shall not independently commit the Company to any financial, contractual, regulatory or promotional obligation without obtaining the requisite approval from the competent authority. All major decisions relating to pricing, promotional expenditure, product launch, marketing campaigns, appointments of external agencies, KOL programmes and other financial commitments shall be subject to the Company's prescribed approval process.
13. General Clause
This defines the major duties and responsibilities of the Product Manager and is not intended to be exhaustive. The Management may modify, add to or withdraw any responsibility depending upon the business requirements of the Company.
The Product Manager shall perform all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Management from time to time in the interest of the Company's business, product growth and overall organizational objectives.
Pay: ₹500,000.00 - ₹800,000.00 per year
