About the Role
SUIL is a leading rubber recycling manufacturer converting end-of-life tyres and tubes into crumb rubber, reclaim rubber, and recovered steel products. We're looking for a Process Automation & Manufacturing Engineer to reduce our dependence on manual/physical labour across the factory floor — by redesigning material flow, introducing mechanised/automated handling where it makes sense, and re-engineering process bottlenecks. This is a newly created, high-visibility role reporting directly to plant leadership, with real ownership over how our factory is laid out and run.
What You'll Do
- Audit current machinery layout, material flow, and manual process steps across the plant to identify automation and mechanisation opportunities
- Design and implement improved plant/factory layouts to minimise manual material handling, transport distance, and non-value-added movement
- Specify, source, and oversee installation of conveyors, automated feeders, sorting/separation systems, and other material-handling equipment appropriate to rubber/crumb processing
- Work with equipment vendors and fabricators to design custom fixtures, jigs, or automation retrofits for existing machinery
- Build the business case (cost, payback, labour reduction) for each automation investment and present it to management for approval
- Run pilot implementations, measure results, and iterate before full rollout
- Train floor supervisors and operators on new equipment/processes
- Maintain documentation of layouts, process flows, and automation systems installed
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial/Production Engineering, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering (required)
- Additional certification/coursework in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Plant Layout Design is a strong plus
Experience
- 3–7 years of hands-on experience in factory/plant automation, industrial engineering, or process improvement roles
- Prior experience in manufacturing environments involving bulk materials, recycling, rubber, plastics, or similar heavy/abrasive processing industries is strongly preferred (this environment is materially different from clean assembly-line automation).
- Demonstrated experience with material handling systems — conveyors, pneumatic/mechanical conveying, sorting/separation equipment
- Experience working directly with fabricators, machine builders, or automation vendors on custom equipment/retrofits
- Track record of actually reducing manual labour dependency or improving throughput in a live plant (not just theoretical/academic projects)
Skills & Traits We're Looking For
- Robust practical/mechanical common sense — able to look at a messy, manual process and see a simpler physical solution, not just a textbook one
- Creative problem-solving with a bias toward pragmatic, cost-effective fixes over expensive, over-engineered solutions
- Working knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD/SolidWorks or similar) for layout and fixture design
- Basic understanding of PLC/sensor-based automation is a plus, but not mandatory — this role is as much about physical layout and material flow as it is about electronics.
- Comfortable working on the shop floor, not just at a desk — this role requires being physically present where the work happens.
- Project management skills to plan, budget, and execute automation initiatives with minimal supervision
- Good communication skills to work with vendors, fabricators, and shop-floor staff
Pay: ₹1,200,000.00 - ₹2,400,000.00 per year
Ability to commute/relocate
- Vadodara, Gujarat: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Work Location: In person
