Role Description This is a full time, on-site Pathologist role based at the UNOMED Referral Lab in Kannur. The Pathologist will perform routine and specialized diagnostic evaluations of specimens, including histopathology, cytology, and clinical pathology investigations, ensuring accurate and timely reporting. Daily responsibilities include overseeing laboratory workflows, validating test results, maintaining quality control standards, and collaborating with clinicians to support patient management and treatment decisions.
The role involves adherence to national and international laboratory guidelines, participation in internal audits and proficiency testing, and contribution to protocol development and continuous improvement initiatives. The Pathologist will also provide guidance to laboratory technologists, support training activities, and help implement new diagnostic techniques aligned with UNOMED’s commitment to clinical excellence.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, with the ability to interpret a wide range of diagnostic tests and reports.
- Proficiency in core Medicine and clinical correlation to support evidence-based patient care and multidisciplinary case discussions.
- Advanced Laboratory Skills, including sample processing, quality control, safety practices, and adherence to laboratory standards.
- Hands-on experience in Histology, including tissue processing, slide evaluation, and reporting of histopathological findings.
- Recognized medical degree (MBBS) and postgraduate qualification in Pathology (MD/DNB or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Valid medical registration with relevant statutory bodies and compliance with professional and ethical standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, with strong communication and decision-making skills.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to continuous learning, quality improvement, and safe laboratory practices.
- Previous experience in a referral lab or hospital-based pathology department is an advantage.
