AKHAND JYOTI EYE HOSPITAL
Hinjilicut
Company Description Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital, founded in 2005 under the Yugrishi Shriram Sharma Acharya Charitable Trust, is a registered non-profit focused on reducing economic and gender inequalities in low-income regions, especially Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The organization’s mission is to create a world without blindness and a future where women thrive, by restoring sight and empowering rural girls through education, skills, and entrepreneurship.
Starting as a small 10-bed hospital in a temple complex, Akhand Jyoti has grown into the largest eye hospital in Eastern India.
Its work is guided by three core pillars: Sight Restoration, Education and Empowerment of Rural Girls, and Serving Low-Income Geographies. With 46+ vision centres and 5 surgical eye hospitals, including a rural Centre of Excellence, the hospital performs over 145,000 surgeries annually—80% free for underprivileged patients—and aims by 2030 to significantly expand its impact on eye care and girls’ education.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Ophthalmologist role based at Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital’s facility in Hinjilicut. The Ophthalmologist will provide comprehensive eye examinations, diagnose and manage ophthalmic conditions, and perform a range of surgical procedures as per their specialization and credentials.
Daily responsibilities include conducting OPD consultations, pre- and post-operative patient evaluations, performing cataract and other appropriate surgeries,
and ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and infection-control standards. The role involves close collaboration with optometrists, nurses, counselors, and outreach teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to a largely rural and low-income population. The Ophthalmologist is also expected to participate in clinical audits, training of junior clinical staff, and community eye health initiatives that support the hospital’s mission of eliminating avoidable blindness.
