ABOUT THE ROLE
We are hiring a Junior QA Engineer at the start of their career to join one of our service delivery teams. This is a combined manual and automation role — you will test by hand and build automated scripts for the same work — and it is real client work from day one, carried out with guidance, mentoring, and review around you while you grow into full ownership. You will sit in a small team with a Tech Project Lead and developers, agreeing the testing scope at handover and sharing your QA evidence before sign-off.
Because we build for clients, security testing and responsible handling of client test data are part of the job, not an afterthought. We are not looking for experience. We are looking for someone who genuinely knows their testing fundamentals, is curious about how software breaks, and is honestly keen to learn.
Our service teams work across a range of stacks and client codebases, so we hire for fundamentals over frameworks — we do not expect prior experience with any specific automation tool, platform, or CMS. If you have practised on your own — automation scripts, a test portfolio, bug reports on public apps, coursework projects — we want to hear about it. What you have tried and can explain matters far more to us than what is written on a certificate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Agree the testing scope with your Tech Project Lead at handover, and write test cases from the built work and the board item — happy paths, error cases, boundaries, and edge cases.
- Run your manual tests as soon as the developer deploys, on the agreed browsers and the team's devices,
so work is verified in time for your lead's acceptance.
- Include security checks in your test plans — login, access control, input validation, session and error handling — and retest security findings to confirm the fix works. Handle client test data responsibly: sensitive and personal data masked per policy, and each client's data kept separate.
- Log defects with reproduction steps, setting, expected vs actual, severity, and proof, so a developer can act without coming back to you; retest fixes and keep the regression set current.
- Build and maintain automated UI and API scripts in the team's framework, and grow your automation skills deliberately with support from your lead. Test API endpoints and integrations — happy and error paths, response schema, and status codes.
- Verify production fixes and client-reported issues on the support stream alongside project work.
- Help get releases and UAT ready — regression evidence, open-issues list, test data and demo accounts, prompt smoke testing — and support clients through UAT with your lead alongside you. Give honest test estimates, flag anything unclear or hard to test before it is committed, and keep your board, test documentation, and daily time log current.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Solid manual testing fundamentals — test case design, positive and negative testing, boundary and edge cases, regression thinking, severity vs priority.
- A clear understanding of the testing and defect life cycles, and what makes a defect report actually useful.
- Basic scripting ability in any language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java) — enough to read, run, and modify an automated test — plus exposure to one automation tool (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress) through study, coursework, or personal practice.
- API testing with a tool such as Postman, and basic SQL to verify what the application actually saved.
- An understanding of how a web application works end to end (HTTP, APIs, client vs server, browser dev tools) — enough to tell where a problem is coming from.
- Awareness of common web security risks — broken access control, injection, weak session handling — and why they belong in a test plan, with a responsible attitude to confidentiality and client data.
- Something you have tested or automated yourself that you can walk us through in detail — what you checked, what you found, how you proved it. Clear communication in English, written and spoken — able to write a defect report, explain an issue to a developer, and give a straight status update. Genuine willingness to learn whatever stack and tools the project needs, rather than pushing for the ones you already know.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent demonstrable self-taught ability)
