Job Summary

We are looking for a Junior Breeder – Chilli to join our R&D; – Plant Breeding team at Nangaon, Pune. The candidate will support chilli breeding and hybrid development activities, including crossing, pollination, selection, trial management, data collection, and evaluation of breeding lines and hybrids.

The ideal candidate should have a strong academic background in Genetics & Plant Breeding / Plant Breeding and practical exposure to vegetable breeding, preferably chilli.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist in chilli breeding and hybrid development programs.
- Perform crossing, emasculation, pollination, selection, and maintenance of breeding lines.
- Plan and execute nursery, greenhouse, and field trials.
- Collect, record, maintain, and analyze breeding and trial data.
- Evaluate breeding lines and hybrids for:
- Yield and yield-related traits
- Fruit quality and marketable characteristics
- Disease and pest resistance
- Adaptability and overall performance
- Maintain breeder seed, germplasm, breeding materials, and related records.
- Support characterization and evaluation of chilli germplasm and breeding materials.
- Coordinate with farm, production, and product development teams for trial activities.
- Prepare trial observations, technical reports, and breeding documentation.
- Ensure breeding activities are carried out as per defined protocols and timelines.
- Maintain proper records of crosses, selections, trial observations, and breeding progress.




- Undertake regular field visits and work extensively in field conditions as required.

Educational Qualification

- M.Sc. in Agriculture with specialization in Genetics & Plant Breeding / Plant Breeding or a related discipline.
- Candidates with relevant practical exposure to vegetable breeding, particularly chilli breeding, will be preferred.

Experience

- 1–3 years of relevant experience in vegetable breeding.
- Experience in chilli breeding will be an added advantage.
- Freshers with strong practical exposure/projects in plant breeding may also be considered.

Required Skills

- Good understanding of plant breeding techniques and breeding principles.
- Practical knowledge of crossing, pollination, selection, and evaluation.
- Trial planning and field trial management.
- Good observation and data recording skills.
- Basic to good knowledge of data analysis and MS Excel.
- Ability to maintain accurate breeding and trial records.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as as part of an R&D; team.
- Willingness to work extensively in field and farm conditions.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
