Company Description Velammal Educational Trust (VET) was founded in 1986 in Chennai with a solid commitment to social responsibility and quality education. What began as a single school has grown into a large network of institutions operating across Mugappair in Chennai, Thiruvallur District, Madurai, Theni, and Karur in Tamil Nadu. Today, the trust serves around 85,000 students and employs approximately 8,000 staff members, reflecting its significant scale and impact.
VET works in collaboration with Veeramakali Memorial Welfare Trust and Ramana Educational Trust to manage its expanding operations professionally. The organization is driven by determination, dedication, and a focus on educational excellence and institutional integrity.
Role Description The GM Finance will oversee the financial strategy and operations of Velammal Educational Trust, ensuring effective financial planning, budgeting, and cost control across multiple institutions. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing financial statements, cash flow, and capital allocation, monitoring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and coordinating audits. The role involves leading the finance team, implementing strong internal controls, and providing data-driven insights and reports to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.
The GM Finance will also work closely with other functional heads to optimize resources and support sustainable growth. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, with experience managing finances for large, multi-unit organizations.
- Expertise in financial reporting, cash flow management, and interpretation of balance sheets, income statements, and other key financial metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements, including coordination with auditors.
- Proficiency in using financial software and ERP systems, along with solid Excel and data analysis capabilities.
- Leadership experience in managing and mentoring finance teams, with a collaborative and ethical approach to decision-making.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-finance leaders.
- Professional qualification such as CA inter is mandatory (preferably at a senior finance level).
- Experience in the education sector or in managing finances for trusts or not-for-profit organizations is an advantage
