Key Responsibilities

- Assist the Consultant Gastroenterologist and clinical team during endoscopic procedures.

- Prepare the Endoscopy Room, equipment, instruments, accessories, and required consumables before procedures.

- Assist during Upper GI Endoscopy (EGD), Colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, and other gastroenterology procedures as assigned.

- Assist with therapeutic procedures such as biopsy, polypectomy, foreign-body removal, hemostasis, and other procedures under the direction of the Gastroenterologist.

- Ensure availability and proper functioning of endoscopy towers, light sources, processors, monitors, suction units, electrosurgical equipment, and related accessories.

- Prepare and check endoscopes and accessories before and after each procedure.

- Assist with patient positioning and preparation while maintaining privacy, dignity, and safety.

- Support the clinical team during patient monitoring and emergency situations.

- Ensure proper handling, transportation, cleaning, disinfection, and storage of endoscopes as per approved protocols.

- Follow strict infection prevention and control procedures for endoscopic equipment and accessories.

- Assist with collection, identification, labeling, and secure handling of biopsy/specimen samples.





- Ensure specimens are properly documented and transferred to the laboratory/pathology department.

- Maintain procedure-related records, checklists, equipment logs, and other required documentation.

- Maintain adequate stocks of consumables, accessories, disinfectants, and emergency supplies.

- Monitor expiry dates and ensure proper storage of consumables and chemicals.

- Report equipment malfunction, damage, or technical issues immediately to the Endoscopy In-Charge.

- Coordinate with nursing staff, Gastroenterologists, Anaesthesia team, pathology/laboratory, and other departments as required.

- Assist in preparing the patient and procedure area for emergency endoscopic procedures.

- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the Endoscopy Unit at all times.

- Follow biomedical waste segregation and disposal protocols.

- Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard medical/procedural records.

- Participate in hospital quality, infection-control, safety, and accreditation activities.

- Perform other duties assigned by the Consultant Gastroenterologist / Endoscopy In-Charge / Hospital Management.
