Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and patient-focused Executive Discharge Department to manage and coordinate the end-to-end discharge process for patients. The role will involve coordination with doctors, nursing, billing, pharmacy, insurance/TPA, medical records and other hospital departments to ensure timely, accurate and smooth patient discharge.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the complete patient discharge process from initiation of discharge advice to final patient release.
- Coordinate with doctors and nursing teams for timely completion of discharge summaries, prescriptions, investigation reports and other required documents.
- Coordinate with Billing, Pharmacy, Insurance/TPA and Medical Records teams for clearance of all discharge formalities.
- Ensure discharge summaries and other patient documents are complete, accurate and available before discharge.
- Monitor pending discharge cases and proactively follow up with respective departments to minimize discharge turnaround time.
- Verify patient details, admission/discharge dates, consultant details and other relevant information in hospital systems.
- Coordinate with patients and attendants regarding discharge procedures, documentation and timelines.
- Handle queries and concerns of patients/attendants related to the discharge process in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Ensure all hospital policies, SOPs and documentation requirements are followed during discharge.
- Coordinate with the insurance/TPA desk for authorization and settlement-related requirements wherever applicable.
- Maintain proper records and documentation of discharged patients.
- Monitor Discharge TAT (Turnaround Time) and identify delays or process gaps.
- Prepare and maintain daily/weekly discharge-related reports and MIS.
- Escalate delayed or critical cases to the concerned senior/department for timely resolution.
- Ensure proper handover of discharge-related documents and records as per hospital protocols.
- Support process improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and reduce discharge delays.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information at all times.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Good knowledge of hospital discharge processes and patient lifecycle management.
- Strong coordination and follow-up skills.
- Good understanding of hospital billing, insurance/TPA and medical documentation processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient-centric approach with robust service orientation.
- Ability to handle multiple discharge cases simultaneously in a fast-paced hospital environment.
- Good problem-solving and escalation management skills.
- Working knowledge of HIS/HMIS and MS Office.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Ability to work effectively with doctors, nurses, patients, attendants and cross-functional hospital teams.
Qualification
- Graduate in any discipline.
- Candidates with a degree/diploma in Hospital Administration, Healthcare Management or related field will be preferred.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a hospital/healthcare setup, preferably in Discharge, Patient Services, Billing, TPA/Insurance or Front Office operations.
