DGM / General Manager Production / Operations

Industry: Coco Peat / Coir / Agro Export Industry

Role Purpose To lead and manage the overall Production and Operations of the Coco Peat business across multiple units. The role is responsible for achieving production targets, maintaining international quality standards, controlling operational costs, optimizing manpower and resources, ensuring timely dispatches, and driving continuous improvement and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & Operations Management

- Plan, monitor, and control overall production activities including chipping, sieving, drying, compressing, packing, and related processes.
- Ensure achievement of daily, monthly, and annual production targets.
- Optimize utilization of raw materials, machinery, manpower, power, and other resources.
- Improve productivity, reduce wastage, and minimize production losses.
- Ensure smooth and uninterrupted plant operations.

2. Quality Management

- Maintain international quality standards for coco peat export products.
- Monitor key quality parameters such as moisture, EC, pH, expansion, and particle size.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, ISO standards, and audit requirements.
- Implement quality control systems at every stage of production.

3. Multi-Unit Operations

- Monitor and guide production operations across multiple Coco Peat units.
- Standardize production processes and operating practices across all units.
- Conduct regular unit visits and review operational performance.
- Identify operational issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.

4. Manpower & Team Management

- Lead and manage Unit Heads, Production Managers, Supervisors, Engineers, and workers.
- Plan manpower requirements and ensure optimum workforce utilization.
- Set performance targets and review team performance.
- Develop and motivate teams through training and continuous improvement initiatives.




- Ensure discipline, safety, and employee welfare across units.

5. Cost & Productivity Control

- Prepare and monitor annual production and operational budgets.
- Control manufacturing costs and improve cost efficiency.
- Monitor consumption of power, fuel, water, raw materials, and packing materials.
- Identify and implement cost-saving and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Drive lean manufacturing and waste-reduction practices.

6. Maintenance & Plant Efficiency

- Coordinate with Engineering and Maintenance teams to ensure machinery availability.
- Monitor preventive and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Reduce machine downtime and improve overall equipment utilization.
- Support modernization and process improvement initiatives.

7. Logistics & Dispatch Coordination

- Coordinate with Purchase, Stores, Logistics, and International Sales teams.
- Ensure availability of raw materials, consumables, packing materials, and spares.
- Monitor finished goods storage, container stuffing, and dispatch activities.
- Ensure timely shipment of export orders as per customer requirements.

8. MIS & Performance Review

- Review daily, weekly, and monthly production performance.
- Analyze production, quality, wastage, productivity, and cost-related MIS.
- Present operational performance and improvement plans to senior management.
- Track KPIs and take corrective actions wherever required.

9. Strategic Planning & Business Improvement

- Develop production strategies aligned with business and export requirements.




- Identify opportunities for capacity expansion and process improvement.
- Introduce best practices and improve operational efficiency.
- Support management in achieving business growth and profitability targets.

10. Cross-Functional Coordination

- Coordinate with HR, Finance, Purchase, Quality, Maintenance, Logistics, Branding, and International Sales departments.
- Act as the key link between unit operations and senior management.
- Ensure effective communication and timely execution of management decisions.

Preferred candidate profile Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelors / Masters degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Science, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in Production / Operations management.
- Experience in Coco Peat / Coir / Agro Export / Manufacturing industries preferred.
- Candidates from FMCG Agro Products, Rice Mills, Flour Mills, Oil Mills, Animal Feed, Fertilizer, or similar bulk manufacturing industries may also be considered.
- Solid experience in multi-unit operations and large-team management.
- Good knowledge of production planning, quality management, cost control, ISO standards, and export-oriented manufacturing.
- Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively across multiple manufacturing units.
