Full – Diagnostic Expert Technician (DET)

Job Summary:

The Diagnostic Expert Technician (DET) will diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, and vehicle performance issues. The role requires strong diagnostic ability, use of OEM diagnostic equipment, systematic fault finding, and coordination with Service Advisors and workshop technicians to ensure accurate and timely repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, and drivability concerns.
- Use OEM diagnostic tools, scanners, multimeters, and other testing equipment to identify faults.
- Read and analyse Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), live data, wiring diagrams, and technical information.
- Diagnose issues related to engine, transmission, ABS, airbags, electrical systems, sensors, ECUs, communication networks, and other vehicle systems.
- Perform systematic root-cause analysis instead of replacing parts on a trial-and-error basis.
- Carry out road tests before and after repairs when required.
- Support technicians in resolving difficult or repeat repair cases.
- Coordinate with Service Advisors to clearly explain diagnosis, required repairs, and estimated repair requirements.
- Follow OEM technical procedures, repair manuals, service bulletins, and diagnostic processes.
- Handle technical cases and escalate unresolved concerns to OEM technical support where required.
- Ensure diagnostic findings and repairs are properly recorded in job cards and DMS.
- Verify repair effectiveness and ensure faults are completely resolved before vehicle delivery.
- Analyse repeat repairs and help prevent recurrence of technical problems.
- Maintain diagnostic equipment and ensure tools are used correctly.
- Keep updated with new vehicle technologies, electrical systems,



software, and technical developments.
- Support and guide workshop technicians in improving diagnostic and technical skills.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

- 3–6 years of automobile workshop experience, preferably in diagnostics and technical repair.
- ITI/Diploma/Degree in Automobile, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering preferred.
- Previous experience as a Diagnostic Technician / Master Technician / DET in an authorised automobile dealership preferred.

Required Skills:

- Strong automobile diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Good understanding of vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
- Experience using OEM diagnostic scanners and testing equipment.
- Understanding of DTCs, sensors, actuators, ECUs, CAN communication, and vehicle electronic systems.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability.
- Logical and analytical approach to problem solving.
- Ability to identify root causes rather than relying on trial-and-error repairs.
- Good documentation and DMS skills.
- Ability to work independently and support other workshop technicians.
- Positive communication and coordination skills.
- Valid driving licence preferred.
