Atha — Freelance Finance & Accounts ManagerAbout Atha
Atha is a growing e-commerce fashion brand, and we're looking for a freelance Finance & Accounts Manager who can take ownership of the day-to-day financial tracking and management of the business.
This is not just a bookkeeping role.
We are looking for someone who can help us understand the financial health of Atha, keep our numbers organised, track profitability, identify where money is going, and make sure we always have a clear picture of our business finances.
What You'll Be Responsible For1. Day-to-Day Financial Tracking
- Maintain a complete record of all business transactions.
- Track daily sales, expenses, payments, receipts, refunds, returns, and other financial activity.
- Reconcile transactions across our bank accounts, payment gateways, marketplaces, Shopify/e-commerce platforms, etc.
- Make sure no transaction is missed or incorrectly recorded.
- Maintain organised financial records and supporting documents.
1. Profit & Loss Management
- Maintain and regularly update Atha's Profit & Loss statement.
- Track:
- Revenue
- Cost of goods sold
- Gross profit
- Marketing expenses
- Shipping/logistics
- Packaging
- Salaries/freelancers
- Platform/payment gateway fees
- Returns/refunds
- Operational expenses
- Other business costs
- Give us a clear understanding of gross margin, net profit and profitability by month.
- Help us understand where we are making and losing money.
1. Cash Flow Management
- Maintain a explicit view of how much cash is coming into and going out of the business.
- Track upcoming payments and financial obligations.
- Help us understand our available cash position.
- Flag potential cash-flow issues before they become problems.
1. E-commerce Financial Tracking
Because Atha is an e-commerce fashion business, you should be comfortable tracking the financial impact of:
- Online orders
- COD orders
- Prepaid orders
- Returns and refunds
- RTOs
- Shipping charges
- Payment gateway charges
- Marketplace/platform commissions
- Discounts and promotions
- Inventory purchases
- Inventory-related costs
- Marketing spends
- Customer acquisition costs
We want to understand not just how much we sold, but how much we actually made from those sales.
1. Inventory & Product Economics
Work with us to track the financial side of inventory, including:
- Inventory purchases
- Stock value
- Cost per product/SKU
- Product-wise margins
- Slow-moving inventory
- Inventory investment
- Stock write-offs or losses where applicable
Help us understand which products are financially performing well and which aren't.
1. Monthly Financial Reporting
Prepare a simple monthly financial dashboard/report showing:
- Total sales
- Net sales
- Gross profit
- Gross margin %
- Total expenses
- Net profit/loss
- Cash in hand/bank
- Major expense categories
- Marketing spend
- Returns/refunds
- Inventory investment
- Outstanding payments/receivables/payables
- Key changes from the previous month
Most importantly, explain the numbers in simple language. We don't just want a spreadsheet—we want to know:
"What happened this month, why did it happen, and what should we be concerned about?"7. Financial Controls & Organisation
- Create a clean and reliable system for maintaining Atha's financial records.
- Establish categories for income and expenses.
- Ensure bills/invoices and financial documents are properly maintained.
- Identify discrepancies or unusual transactions.
- Create processes that make the financial side of the business easier to manage as Atha grows.
1. Tax & Compliance Coordination
You should be comfortable coordinating with our CA/tax professional and providing them with accurate and organised financial information when required. You don't necessarily need to be our CA, but you should understand the basics of GST, TDS,
invoicing and e-commerce accounting well enough to ensure the books are maintained correctly and coordinate with the CA effectively.
