Job Role: Academic Head – CBSE
Location: Sarjapura, Bangalore The Academic Head – CBSE will provide strategic and operational academic leadership for the CBSE curriculum at Kunskapsskolan School, Bangalore. The role will be responsible for ensuring high standards of teaching and learning, effective curriculum implementation, academic planning, assessment, teacher development, and compliance with CBSE requirements.
The Academic Head will work closely with the School Leadership Team, teachers, students, and parents to create a strong culture of academic excellence, innovation, continuous improvement, and student-centred learning.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
- Lead the overall academic planning and implementation of the CBSE curriculum across the school.
- Establish academic priorities, standards, targets, and measurable outcomes in alignment with the school's vision and objectives.
- Monitor academic performance and identify areas for improvement across grades and subjects.
- Ensure consistency and quality in curriculum delivery, lesson planning, classroom practices, and student learning outcomes.
- Support the development of a strong academic culture focused on student achievement and holistic development.
Curriculum & Pedagogy
- Ensure effective implementation of the CBSE curriculum, competency-based education, experiential learning, and other applicable CBSE initiatives.
- Review curriculum plans, schemes of work, lesson plans, and academic resources.
- Promote innovative, inquiry-based, differentiated, and student-centred teaching practices.
- Ensure appropriate integration of technology and contemporary pedagogical practices in teaching and learning.
- Coordinate cross-curricular and interdisciplinary learning opportunities wherever relevant.
Teacher Development & Academic Support
- Lead and support teachers in improving classroom effectiveness and student outcomes.
- Identify professional development needs and coordinate relevant training, workshops, mentoring, and peer-learning opportunities.
- Conduct academic observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
- Support new teachers through structured induction and academic mentoring.
- Encourage a culture of collaboration, reflection, innovation, and continuous professional growth.
Assessment & Academic Monitoring
- Oversee the school's assessment calendar, examinations, periodic assessments, and other academic evaluations.
- Ensure assessment practices are aligned with CBSE guidelines and school academic policies.
- Analyse student performance data and identify trends, gaps, and intervention areas.
- Guide teachers in developing effective assessments that measure conceptual understanding, competencies, and application.
- Ensure timely academic interventions and support plans for students requiring additional assistance.
- Monitor student progress and ensure appropriate academic reporting to parents and school leadership.
Academic Planning & Operations
- Prepare and oversee the annual academic plan, academic calendar, examination schedules, and curriculum timelines.
- Coordinate with coordinators and Heads of Departments/Subject Leads to ensure timely completion of academic milestones.
- Monitor syllabus/curriculum coverage and ensure appropriate pacing across grades.
- Ensure effective utilisation of academic resources, laboratories, libraries,
learning spaces, and other facilities.
- Maintain appropriate academic documentation and records.
CBSE Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to applicable CBSE curriculum, examination, assessment, and academic requirements.
- Keep abreast of changes and updates in CBSE policies, circulars, curriculum frameworks, and academic guidelines.
- Ensure required academic records, reports, and documentation are maintained accurately and within prescribed timelines.
- Coordinate with relevant school teams for CBSE-related inspections, audits, examinations, and other academic requirements.
Student Development & Support
- Promote a learning environment that supports academic, social, emotional, and personal development.
- Work with teachers and student support teams to identify students requiring academic intervention or enrichment.
- Encourage academic enrichment through projects, competitions, clubs, Olympiads, workshops, and other learning opportunities.
- Support the development of independent learning, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills among students.
Qualifications & Experience
- Postgraduate degree in Education, a relevant subject, or a related discipline.
- B.Ed. or equivalent skilled teaching qualification.
- Strong experience in a CBSE school, preferably with experience in a senior academic leadership role.
- Typically 5–8 years of teaching and academic leadership experience, with demonstrated experience in curriculum planning, teacher development, assessment, and school improvement.
- Strong understanding of the CBSE curriculum, assessment framework, competency-based education, and academic regulations.
- Experience in leading teams, mentoring teachers, and managing academic processes across multiple grades.
