Patient Interaction:
Interact directly with patients, often in their homes, making them feel comfortable and explaining the procedure.
Ensure patient confidentiality and address any concerns about the process.
Documentation:
Accurately label and document blood samples with patient information to ensure proper processing.
Maintain records of blood draws and any relevant patient information.
Equipment Maintenance:
Ensure all necessary equipment (e.g., needles, tubes, gloves) is stocked and in valuable working condition.
Safely dispose of medical waste and ensure proper hygiene practices are followed.
Transportation of Samples:
Transport blood samples to laboratories or healthcare facilities,
ensuring they are handled correctly to avoid contamination or degradation.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Follow infection control and safety protocols.
Ensure that all actions comply with relevant health regulations, such as OSHA standards.
Skills and Qualifications:
Certification: DMLT
Knowledge of Anatomy: Understanding of human veins and anatomy to effectively perform venipunctures.
Communication Skills: Since the job involves interacting with patients, robust communication and interpersonal skills are vital.
Physical Dexterity: The ability to perform blood draws accurately and safely.
Empathy and Patience: Many patients receiving home visits may be elderly, frail, or nervous about the procedure.
