Experience: 5–10 years
Function: R&D; / Power Electronics
Location: Bangalore, India
Business Area: Utility-Scale PV Inverters, BESS PCS & Microgrid Systems

Employment Type: Full time

About the role:

We are looking for a System Architect / Senior System Design Engineer to lead the hardware architecture and system-level design of utility-scale PV inverters and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Power Conversion Systems (PCS). The role requires strong hands-on expertise in power-converter design, system architecture, electrical integration, and product development from concept through certification and field deployment.

Key responsibilities:

- Define system architecture and hardware design for utility-scale PV inverters and BESS PCS in the MW power range.
- Develop power-stage architecture, including power semiconductors, DC-link, AC filter, busbars, magnetic components, and protection systems.
- Design and optimize high-power inverter / PCS hardware, including thermal management, switching strategy, efficiency, power density, and reliability.
- Develop grid-connected and grid-forming (GFM) converter architectures, including grid synchronization, fault ride-through, reactive power, and power-quality requirements.
- Design DC and AC interfaces for PV, battery, transformer, and grid connections, including isolation, protection, and grounding.
- Lead system-level electrical design, including SLDs, operating modes, ratings, overload capability, and fault-current withstand.
- Coordinate with control, firmware, mechanical, thermal, EMC, and certification teams to ensure successful product integration.
- Support component selection, derating, reliability analysis, and design reviews for power semiconductors, capacitors, inductors, transformers, and protection devices.
- Develop and review design calculations, simulations, prototypes, and validation plans for power-conversion systems.
- Lead DVT/PVT, type testing, EMC/EMI, safety, and certification activities for IEC/UL-compliant products.
- Support field issue resolution, root-cause analysis,

and product improvement through engineering changes.
- Contribute to new product platforms, technology roadmaps, and intellectual property development for PV, BESS, and microgrid applications.

Required technical expertise:

- Strong experience in power-electronics system architecture and hardware design.
- Hands-on experience with utility-scale PV central inverters and/or MW-class BESS PCS.
- Good understanding of 2-level / 3-level inverter topologies, high-power switching devices, and converter modulation.
- Experience in DC-link design, AC filters, magnetic components, busbars, protection, and thermal design.
- Knowledge of grid-connected inverter control concepts, including GFL, GFM, LVRT/HVRT, reactive power control, and grid-code requirements.
- Experience with electrical simulations and design tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, or equivalent.
- Understanding of EMI/EMC, insulation coordination, creepage/clearance, grounding, and safety requirements.
- Familiarity with IEC / UL standards applicable to PV inverters, PCS, and power-conversion equipment.
- Ability to interpret and prepare system specifications, SLDs, interface documents, and technical design reviews.

Preferred experience:

- Experience in MW-class converter development, including 1 MW–5 MW PV inverters or PCS.
- Experience with grid-forming PCS, islanded operation, seamless transfer, and parallel operation.
- Experience in BESS system integration, battery DC interfaces, and energy-storage applications.
- Exposure to HIL validation, PSS®E / PSCAD studies, grid-code compliance, and utility-scale project commissioning.
- Experience in UL certification, type testing, and international product development.
- Experience in design leadership, technical mentoring, and cross-functional project execution.

Education:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
