About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on SharePoint Administrator for a full-time, four-month contractual position based in Chennai.
The ideal candidate should have strong practical experience in SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365 administration, SharePoint security and permissions, troubleshooting, governance, PowerShell, and collaboration technologies. We are looking for a resource who can independently manage SharePoint administration activities, resolve technical issues, work with users and IT teams, and contribute to improving the overall SharePoint environment.
This is a technical ownership role and is not limited to routine user support. Candidates with strong hands-on expertise, problem-solving ability, and the confidence to independently manage SharePoint environments are strongly encouraged to apply.
Compensation will not be a constraint for an exceptionally qualified candidate.
Key ResponsibilitiesSharePoint Administration
- Administer and maintain SharePoint Online and, where applicable, SharePoint Server environments.
- Create, configure, maintain, and manage SharePoint sites, site collections, libraries, lists, pages, groups, permissions, and configurations.
- Manage modern SharePoint team sites, communication sites, hub sites, navigation, pages, and document libraries.
- Configure content types, columns, metadata, views, document sets, and information architecture.
- Manage site lifecycle activities including provisioning, modification, archival, and decommissioning.
- Monitor platform health, storage, performance, availability, and administrative issues.
- Ensure SharePoint environments remain secure, organized, scalable, and aligned with organizational standards.
Microsoft 365 & SharePoint Online
- Administer SharePoint Online within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
- Work with Microsoft 365 services including Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft 365 Groups, and related services.
- Troubleshoot SharePoint integration with Teams and OneDrive.
- Manage sharing policies, external sharing, guest access, collaboration settings, and access controls.
- Understand modern SharePoint architecture and Microsoft 365 administration concepts.
Security & Permissions
- Design, configure, review, and troubleshoot SharePoint permissions.
- Manage SharePoint groups, Microsoft 365 groups, security groups, and individual access.
- Understand permission inheritance, unique permissions, sharing links, access requests, and external sharing.
- Support least-privilege access and periodic access reviews.
- Identify and resolve inappropriate or excessive permissions.
- Troubleshoot authentication, authorization, and access-related issues.
- Work with Microsoft Entra ID users, groups, roles, and identity concepts.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Act as a technical point of contact for SharePoint incidents, service requests, and operational issues.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving permissions, access, document libraries, lists, search, synchronization, sharing, authentication, workflows, Power Automate,
and integrations.
- Perform root-cause analysis for recurring and complex issues.
- Distinguish between configuration, identity, user, application, network, and platform-related problems.
- Escalate issues appropriately to Microsoft or internal technical teams.
- Maintain clear incident, troubleshooting, and resolution documentation.
PowerShell & Automation
- Use PowerShell to automate SharePoint and Microsoft 365 administrative activities.
- Develop scripts for bulk operations, reporting, configuration, permission management, auditing, and administrative tasks.
- Generate administrative and operational reports.
- Robust knowledge of PnP PowerShell / PnP.PowerShell is highly desirable.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive administration and improve operational efficiency.
SharePoint Governance & Information Architecture
- Support SharePoint governance, standards, and best practices.
- Establish and maintain standards for site provisioning, naming, permissions, external sharing, storage, ownership, retention, and lifecycle management.
- Design and maintain effective SharePoint information architecture.
- Support metadata, taxonomy, content types, search, navigation, and document management.
- Identify governance gaps and recommend practical improvements.
- Maintain SOPs, technical documentation, architecture records, and knowledge-base material.
Power Platform & Workflows
- Understand SharePoint workflows and business processes.
- Support and troubleshoot Microsoft Power Automate flows using SharePoint.
- Troubleshoot connectors, permissions, authentication, service accounts, triggers, and dependencies.
- Support SharePoint integration with Power Apps and other Microsoft 365 solutions.
- Identify opportunities for workflow and process automation.
Migration & Data Management
Experience with SharePoint migration is highly desirable.
The candidate may support:
- File Server to SharePoint migrations.
- SharePoint Server to SharePoint Online migrations.
- SharePoint-to-SharePoint migrations.
- OneDrive and Microsoft 365 content migrations.
- Permission mapping and validation.
- Metadata and content-type mapping.
- Content restructuring and cleanup.
- Migration validation and post-migration troubleshooting.
Experience with ShareGate, Microsoft Migration Manager, or equivalent migration tools is an advantage.
Monitoring, Backup & Recovery
- Monitor SharePoint service health, storage, performance, and operational status.
- Investigate recurring platform and configuration issues.
- Understand SharePoint data protection, retention, backup, recovery, and restoration concepts.
- Support recovery and restoration activities where applicable.
- Work with infrastructure, security, and Microsoft support teams when required.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain professional technical documentation including:
- SharePoint architecture and configuration documentation
- Site inventories
- Permission and access documentation
- SOPs and administration procedures
- Incident and troubleshooting records
- Migration documentation
- Change records
- Operational reports
- Knowledge-base articles
Required Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in SharePoint Administration or a closely related Microsoft 365/infrastructure role.
- Strong hands-on experience with SharePoint Online.
- Strong knowledge of SharePoint sites, lists, libraries, pages, permissions, groups, content types, metadata, and configuration.
- Strong understanding of SharePoint security and permission models.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration.
- Understanding of Microsoft Entra ID.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams and OneDrive integration.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.
- Ability to independently diagnose and resolve SharePoint issues.
- Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical responsibilities.
Highly Desirable
- SharePoint Server administration experience.
- PowerShell and PnP PowerShell.
- SharePoint migration experience.
- ShareGate or equivalent migration tools.
- Microsoft Power Automate and Power Apps.
- Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 security/compliance.
- SharePoint governance and information architecture.
- SharePoint Search configuration and troubleshooting.
- Enterprise SharePoint support experience.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications.
Preferred Candidate Profile

Education & Certifications
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Applications, or a related discipline is preferred.
Relevant Microsoft certifications are an advantage but not mandatory. Strong hands-on experience and demonstrated technical capability will be given significant consideration.
