Backend Engineer – Cybersecurity / AI

About the Role

Shinobi Security is an applied AI company building autonomous offensive security technology. We are looking for a Backend Engineer to design and build the systems that control, secure, orchestrate, and monitor autonomous security agents operating in real customer environments.

This is a system design and backend engineering role with significant ownership.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and build backend services for autonomous security engagements.
- Develop traffic interception/proxy systems, including scope enforcement, rate limiting, and request/response capture.
- Build secure credential-brokering systems with scoped and revocable credentials.
- Design agent orchestration for long-running jobs, including queues, scheduling, retries, state management, and cancellation.
- Build audit and evidence systems that reliably record agent activity.
- Ensure strong multi-tenant isolation, authorization, and security controls.
- Debug production issues and work directly with customers to resolve technical problems.

Must-Have Requirements

Please apply only if you meet the following core requirements:

- Strong production experience with TypeScript or Python.
- Proven experience designing and architecting backend systems, not just implementing predefined designs.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems — queues, workers, state machines,



retries, idempotency, and long-running jobs.
- Good understanding of HTTP, TLS, proxies, and networking.
- Strong security mindset, including least privilege, authorization, and credential security.
- Working knowledge of AWS and containers.
- Ability to take ownership of technical problems and work directly with customers.

Good to Have

Experience with Kubernetes, Envoy/mitmproxy, secrets management (Vault/OpenBao), LLM agent orchestration, penetration testing, or offensive security is a solid advantage.

Important: The strongest candidates will have demonstrated experience designing production systems from the ground up and working across backend engineering, distributed systems, and security.
