WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS JOB:
As part of the Identity Management team, you’ll help deliver secure digital products that support a reliable and profitable airline. You will design, implement, and care for cybersecurity solutions that protect users, systems, operations, and data, by ensuring strong identity controls such as role based access, authentication, authorization, and governance.

As an Identity Management (IDM/IGA) Engineer, you will design, implement, and manage our IDM/IGA technologies that strengthen user lifecycle processes and application access management. You will be expected to balance technical delivery with supporting our customer’ needs. Your responsibilities include maintaining, optimizing, and troubleshooting identity products to ensure secure, reliable user experiences. You will collaborate with system administrators, developers, HR, and security teams to seamlessly integrate IDM/IGA capabilities across the organization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of identity technologies, contributing to a robust security framework that supports American Airlines’ business objectives and its users enterprise wide.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:

- Implementation and Integration of IAM Solutions: Design, deploy, and configure identity and access management (IAM) solutions to meet organizational security requirements, while integrating with existing IT infrastructure and applications
- User Provisioning and De-provisioning: Automate and manage the processes for creating, modifying,
and removing user accounts and access rights based on organizational policies and user roles.
- Access Control Management: Design, develop, implement, and manage access control policies and procedures to ensure secure and appropriate access to systems and data.
- Authentication and Authorization: Implement and maintain secure authentication mechanisms (e.g., multi-factor authentication) and authorization protocols to ensure that users have appropriate access to resources.
- Identity and Access Management (IAM) Implementation: Deploy and configure IAM solutions to manage user identities, roles, and access privileges across the organization’s systems and applications.
- Solution Optimization: Automate and identify efficient processes for creating, modifying, and removing user accounts and access rights based on organizational policies and user roles.
- Incident Response and Troubleshooting: Respond to and resolve identity-related security incidents, troubleshoot IAM issues, and provide technical support to users experiencing access problems.
- Managing Privileged Accounts: Assisting in the lifecycle management of privileged accounts, including creation, modification, and termination, to ensure that only authorized individuals have access to sensitive systems and data.
- Communication: Clearly convey project risks and issues to scrum leads and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making.
- Threat and Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular assessments to identify vulnerabilities in systems, applications, and networks. Implement measures to mitigate identified risks and vulnerabilities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with team members, scrum leads, and stakeholders to align cybersecurity initiatives with corporate objectives and ensure successful project delivery.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to access, authentication, authorization, and system integrations promptly
- Solution Hardening: Improve identity and access management solutions and systems for protection against evolving threats and efficiency.
- Monitoring and Auditing: Continuously monitor IAM systems for suspicious activities, perform regular audits to ensure compliance with security policies, and generate reports on access controls and user activities.
ALL YOU’LL NEED FOR SUCCESS:
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
- 5+ years experience in a closely related role
- Strong understanding of IAM technologies and protocols (such as SAML, OAuth, LDAP, IGA, MFA and PAM).
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 4+ years’ experience in IAM, PAM or related engineering roles.
- 3+ years' experience designing and implementing IAM,
PAM or related security solutions.
- Experience with technologies and concepts such as SSO, RBAC, directory services, certificates and secrets management.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their security features.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001).
Skills, Licenses & Certifications:
- Relevant certifications including but not limited to CISSP, CISM, CISA, CompTIA Security+, Certified Identity and Access Manager (CIAM), Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate, and GIAC
- Certified Windows Security Administrator (GCWN), AWS Certified Security – Specialty, Saviynt Certified IGA Professional
- Proficiency in Identity and Access Management (IAM) practices
- Familiarity with cloud security and cloud IAM (e.g., AWS IAM, Azure AD)
- Ability to implement and manage access management solutions based on complex security requirements
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Experience in managing identity management projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring
- Expertise in identity and access management (IAM) principles and practices
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Capability to support IAM projects and initiatives, with experience working with various stakeholders, including IT, security teams, and end users
- Expertise in IAM tools and technologies (e.g., Saviynt, Okta, SailPoint, Microsoft Azure AD, PING)
- Knowledge of common identity-related vulnerabilities and threats
- Understanding of authentication and authorization protocols (e.g., SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect)
- Familiarity with identity management standards and frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001)
- Ability to conduct identity and access reviews and audits
- Strong problem-solving skills to address identity-related security challenges and incidents
- Proficiency in automation and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to streamline IAM processes.
