Unit Head – Human Resources

Experience
12–15 years of progressive HR experience, preferably with significant experience in the hospital/healthcare industry.
Job Purpose The Unit HR Head will be responsible for leading the complete HR function of the hospital unit, partnering with the Unit Head and clinical/non-clinical leadership to build a high-performing workforce, strengthen employee engagement, ensure HR compliance, and align people strategies with business and patient-care objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Strategy & Business Partnership
- Develop and execute the unit's HR strategy in alignment with hospital objectives.
- Act as a strategic HR partner to the Unit Head, HODs and functional leaders.
- Support manpower planning, organizational restructuring and workforce optimization.
2. Talent Acquisition & Manpower Planning
- Drive recruitment for clinical, nursing, paramedical, technical, administrative and support functions.
- Ensure timely closure of critical and leadership positions.
- Prepare manpower budgets and monitor vacancies, hiring timelines and workforce productivity.
3. Employee Engagement & Retention
- Develop initiatives to improve employee engagement, satisfaction and retention.
- Conduct employee connect initiatives, feedback sessions and engagement activities.
- Identify attrition trends and implement corrective actions.
4. Performance Management
- Drive the annual performance management process.
- Ensure effective goal setting, performance reviews and development plans.
- Partner with HODs on performance improvement and talent development.
5. Learning & Development
- Identify training needs across clinical and non-clinical teams.
- Coordinate leadership development, behavioural and functional training programs.
- Build internal talent pipelines and succession plans for critical positions.
6. Employee Relations
- Handle employee grievances, disciplinary matters and workplace conflicts professionally.
- Maintain healthy employee relations and promote a positive workplace culture.
- Ensure effective communication between employees and management.
7. HR Operations & Compliance
- Oversee HR operations including onboarding, confirmation, transfers, promotions, attendance, payroll coordination and separation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws, statutory requirements and hospital policies.
- Maintain accurate HR records, MIS and dashboards.
8. HR Analytics & MIS
- Monitor key HR metrics such as headcount, attrition, vacancy, recruitment TAT, absenteeism, productivity and employee engagement.
- Present periodic HR reports and actionable insights to senior management.
9. Culture & Employee Experience
- Build a culture of patient-centricity, accountability, teamwork and professionalism.
- Strengthen employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle.
- Drive HR initiatives that support hospital quality and operational excellence.
Preferred Candidate Profile A hands-on HR leader with solid hospital HR exposure, excellent stakeholder-management skills and the ability to independently manage a complete unit HR function while partnering effectively with clinical and operational leadership.
