Your Role: More Than Teaching English

As a Spoken English Trainer, you'll facilitate communication training for young people at our Lighthouse Centre.

But this isn't about teaching grammar for the sake of grammar.

You'll help students use English to:

- Express themselves clearly.
- Participate confidently in conversations.
- Communicate in professional environments.
- Prepare for interviews.
- Interact effectively at the workplace.
- Overcome the fear of speaking.
- Believe in their ability to communicate.

Your classroom should be a place where students feel comfortable trying, making mistakes, learning, and trying again.

What You Will Do

Make English Practical

- Deliver interactive and engaging spoken English sessions.
- Focus on practical communication rather than only textbook learning.
- Use conversations, role plays, activities, discussions, presentations, and real-life workplace situations.
- Help students build vocabulary, fluency, pronunciation, and confidence.
- Adapt your teaching style to different levels of English proficiency.

Connect Communication to Employability Help learners understand how communication skills show up in the workplace.

You may facilitate activities around:

- Self-introduction
- Workplace conversations
- Telephone and email communication
- Group discussions
- Presentations
- Interview conversations
- Professional etiquette
- Customer interactions
- Team communication

The goal is simple: Help students communicate with confidence when opportunity knocks.

Assess & Give Feedback

- Conduct assessments at appropriate stages of the program.
- Track learner progress and identify areas requiring additional support.
- Provide constructive individual feedback.
- Help students understand both their strengths and areas for improvement.
- Use learner performance to adapt future sessions.

Mentor & Motivate Learning a new language can be uncomfortable.

Students may hesitate. They may be afraid of making mistakes. Some may feel that English is “not for them.”

You'll help change that mindset.

- Encourage students to participate.
- Create a safe setting where mistakes are treated as part of learning.
- Build meaningful relationships with learners.
- Motivate students to continue practising beyond the classroom.
- Celebrate progress, both big and small.

Collaborate With the Team

- Maintain regular communication with the Master Trainer.
- Share learner progress, challenges, and observations.
- Suggest improvements to curriculum and teaching approaches.
- Support team activities and centre initiatives.
- Contribute ideas that can make the learner experience more engaging.

Maintain Training Documentation

- Maintain attendance and training records.
- Document assessments and learner progress.
- Complete required reports and training documentation.
- Ensure timely sharing of relevant information with the team.

Who Are We Looking For?

Education

- Graduate or Postgraduate in any discipline.
- Candidates with a background in English or Education are preferred.

Experience

- 1–2 years of relevant experience in English teaching, spoken English training, communication training, or facilitation.
- Experience working with youth or first-generation learners is an advantage.

Communication

You should have:

- Strong spoken English.
- Strong written English.
- Clear pronunciation and confident communication.
- The ability to explain concepts in simple and accessible language.

Facilitation

- Comfortable facilitating batches of 25–30 students.
- Energetic and confident in front of a group.




- Strong classroom management and presentation skills.
- Ability to use activities and interactive methods rather than relying only on lectures.
