Key Qualifications & Requirements for special educator

- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Education, or Psychology.
- Certification: Valid teaching license or special education certification from a recognized institution (such as RCI-approved bodies in India).
- Knowledge: Understanding of developmental conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and learning disabilities.
- Skills: Patience, empathy, strong communication, and familiarity with assistive technology. [1, 2]

Core Responsibilities
- IEP Development: Create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's goals.
- Lesson Adaptation: Modify general education materials and teaching methods to match individual capabilities.
- Progress Tracking: Monitor academic, social, and behavioral progress, updating plans as needed.
- Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Academic Guidance: Help students choose classes, improve study habits, manage time, and plan for graduation or higher education.

Required Qualifications and Skills of School Counsellor
- Education: A Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology,



or a related field (or a Post-Graduate Diploma in counseling for many regional boards).
- Licensure/Certification: State or board-approved certification/licensure to practice in educational settings.
- Experience: Prior experience (typically 1 to 3 years) working with children or young adults in an educational or therapeutic setting.
- Key Skills: Active listening, high patience, strong communication, empathy, and strict adherence to student confidentiality.
- Personal and Social Support: Listen to emotional concerns, assist with peer pressure or bullying, and teach stress management.
- Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate help during emotional distress, family issues, or critical situations.
- Collaboration: Work with teachers, parents, and school administrators to monitor student progress and resolve conflicts.
- Referrals: Connect students with outside mental health professionals or psychologists when specialized care is needed.
