About HustleFeed
HustleFeed is a digital media platform covering the stories behind the world's fastest-growing startups and the people and technologies shaping business.
We publish research-driven coverage of startup funding, venture capital, AI, emerging technology, and the product and company milestones that matter. Our readers are founders, investors, operators, and people who want to know what is happening now and what comes next.
The Role
We are hiring a Software Engineer to build the content and data platform behind the coverage.
HustleFeed runs on two things: speed and structure. Speed, because funding news is worth a fraction as much a day late, so publishing has to be fast and the site has to stay up when a story lands. Structure, because we do not just write about deals; we track them: companies, rounds, investors, valuations, and the relationships between them, pulled from sources that disagree with each other and go stale without warning.
You will build both. The backend services and APIs that power the site and the newsroom, and the data layer underneath that turns scattered funding information into something we can query, publish from, and trust.
You will work directly with editorial. When a reporter says the data is wrong, they are usually right, and fixing that quickly is part of the job.
What You Will Do
Design, build, and operate the backend services and APIs behind the platform.
Build and maintain the data layer for companies, funding rounds, investors, and milestones.
Build ingestion and integration with external data sources, and handle the fact that they conflict and go stale.
Build the internal tools editors use to research, write, and publish.
Own performance and reliability, including how the site holds up when traffic spikes.
Improve security across the platform.
Own quality through tests, code review, monitoring, and debugging production issues.
Contribute to architecture decisions and write them down.
Improve development workflow and tooling so shipping stays rapid.
What You Will Need
2 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with production systems you have shipped and maintained.
Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and systems design.
Proficiency in Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, Go, Java, or a comparable modern language.
Solid backend experience, including REST APIs and database integration.
Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
Fluency with Git and CI/CD practices.
Strong debugging instincts and the discipline to write code someone else can maintain.
Clear communication with people who are not engineers, since your users are journalists.
The self-direction to work well on a distributed team.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have
Data pipeline or ETL work, especially with unreliable external sources.
Entity resolution and deduplication, or anything else that involves reconciling records that do not agree.
Experience with a content management system, publishing platform, or media product.
Web performance work: caching, CDN configuration, and technical SEO.
Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker and Kubernetes.
Applications built on LLMs, for search, summarization, or editorial tooling.
Genuine interest in startups, venture capital, and technology.
Why This Role The data problems here are more interesting than most media engineering. Reconciling funding information across sources that contradict each other is a real problem, and the result is not an internal dashboard. It is published, and people in the industry use it.
The team is small enough that you will own systems rather than tickets, and see the effect of your work the same week.
Working Here
Remote, based in India.
Compensation is ₹12,00,000 to ₹18,00,000 per annum, set by experience and demonstrated engineering ability.
