Senior Backend Engineer – Voice AI

Location: Bengaluru

Work mode: 5 days/week, Work from Office

Experience: 3–4 years The Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer – Voice AI to build reliable, low-latency systems that power real-time AI conversations and interviewing experiences.

You will work closely with Product, Design, AI/ML, and Engineering teams to deliver Voice AI features end to end from telephony and conversation orchestration to AI quality, reliability, and analytics. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys product engineering, moves quickly, and takes strong ownership of production outcomes.

What You’ll Do

● Build and scale backend services for real-time Voice AI experiences, including telephony, audio streaming, session management, conversation state, and post-call workflows.

● Integrate and operate Voice AI platforms such as LiveKit, Vapi, Twilio, WebRTC, or similar technologies.

● Develop AI-powered conversation workflows using speech-to-text, text-to-speech, LLMs,

retrieval, tool calling, and structured outputs.

● Build agentic orchestration flows using LangChain, LangGraph, or similar frameworks.

● Develop APIs and backend services using Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis,

queues, and background workers.

● Improve latency, call reliability, quality of conversations, and the overall candidate experience.

● Design observability for voice and AI workflows through logging, metrics, tracing,

alerting, and error handling.

● Partner with Product and Design to convert customer problems into straightforward, scalable product experiences.





● Participate actively in code reviews, technical design discussions, and improvements to engineering practices.

What We’re Looking For

● 3–5 years of backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.

● Strong proficiency in Python and experience with FastAPI or comparable backend frameworks.

● Solid experience with PostgreSQL, REST APIs, background jobs, queues, caching, and asynchronous processing.

● Hands-on experience with Voice AI, real-time communications, telephony, WebRTC,

audio/video streaming, or conversational AI systems.

● Exposure to tools such as LiveKit, Vapi, Twilio, or equivalent communications platforms.

● Experience building LLM-powered applications, including prompt orchestration, RAG,

tool calling, structured outputs, and evaluations.

● Familiarity with LangChain, LangGraph, or comparable agent/workflow frameworks.

● Strong understanding of API design, distributed systems fundamentals, reliability, and performance optimisation.

● Familiarity with Docker, cloud deployments, CI/CD, monitoring, and production debugging.

● A strong product mindset and curiosity about user behaviour, quality, and customer outcomes.

● Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with evolving requirements and high ownership.

Nice to Have

● Experience with AI quality metrics, conversation evaluation, or human-in-the-loop workflows.

● Experience building multi-tenant B2B SaaS products.

● Experience with AWS, GCP, or another cloud platform.

● Exposure to recruiting, HR tech, or workflow automation products.
