Data Migration Consultant SAP BODS

Role Purpose:

The Data Migration Consultant (SAP BODS) is responsible for the design, build, execution, and reconciliation of data migration objects within the SAP S/4HANA transformation programme, with a specific focus on Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order to Cash(O2C), SAP UDF, SAP EWM, Using SAP BusinessObjects Data Services (BODS) as the primary ETL toolset, the role delivers extraction, transformation, cleansing, validation, and load routines that ensure complete, accurate, and reconciled data is migrated from legacy source systems into the target SAP landscape.

Operating within an offshore delivery model, the role collaborates closely with the Data Migration Lead, functional consultants (IS-Retail, P2P, O2C, UDF), business data owners, and cutover teams to meet data quality, reconciliation, and cutover timelines across mock runs and go-live.

Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Deliver end-to-end migration of assigned P2P and Inventory data objects (Stock/Inventory, Batch, Moving Average Price, Article Master, etc.,) using SAP BODS – from data profiling and mapping through build, execution, validation, and reconciliation.

- Develop and maintain SAP BODS jobs, workflows, and dataflows for assigned migration objects.
- Perform source-to-target mapping, transformation rules, and data cleansing in line with functional specifications.
- Execute extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) cycles across mock / dress-rehearsal runs and production cutover.
- Build and run validation and reconciliation reports to confirm completeness and accuracy of migrated data.
- Load data into SAP S/4HANA using the SAP Migration Cockpit (LTMC / LTMOM), IDocs, BAPIs, or LSMW as required.
- Log, track, and resolve data defects; support root-cause analysis and re-run cycles.
- Maintain migration documentation – mapping sheets, transformation logic, run books, and reconciliation results.
- Support cutover planning, sequencing, and execution for assigned objects.

- Contract engagement within an offshore delivery model supporting an onshore-led SAP S/4HANA transformation programme.
- Role spans multiple data objects and iterative mock-load / dress-rehearsal cycles under strict cutover timelines.
- Requires close coordination across functional (MM/Inventory, P2P), technical, and business data-owner teams.

Functional/Technical Competencies SAP Data Services (BODS) Expertise

Strong hands-on experience with:

- SAP BusinessObjects Data Services (BODS) – jobs, workflows, and dataflows
- Transforms – Query, Map Operation, Table Comparison, Merge, Case, Validation, and SQL
- Data profiling, cleansing, and standardization
- Performance optimization, error handling, and job scheduling in BODS
- Connecting BODS to SAP and non-SAP sources and targets
- Debugging the IDoc Errors and Monitoring the same during the data loads.
- LSMW Methodology with all types of migrations.

Data Migration Methodology

Working knowledge of

- End-to-end data migration lifecycle (profiling mapping build mock validate cutover)
- Source-to-target mapping and transformation rule design
- SAP Migration Cockpit (LTMC / LTMOM), LSMW, IDocs, and BAPIs
- Legacy data extraction and staging approaches

P2P / Inventory Functional Knowledge

Understanding of

- Inventory / Stock data – material stock, storage location, and valuation
- Batch Management – batch master, characteristics, and classification
- Moving Average Price (MAP) and material valuation concepts
- Material Master and related P2P / MM master and transactional data
- Open POs, PO history, and inventory movements (as relevant to migration)





Data Quality & Reconciliation

Knowledge of

- Data validation, reconciliation, and defect management
- Pre-load and post-load reconciliation reporting
- Data quality rules and cleansing standards

Technical Skills

Proficiency in

- SQL (Oracle / SQL Server / SAP HANA)
- Relational databases and staging schemas
- Microsoft Excel for mapping and reconciliation
- SAP navigation for validation (SE16N, MM03, MMBE, MB5B, etc.)

Experience

- 5–8 years of experience in SAP data migration using SAP BODS.
- Hands-on experience migrating MM / Inventory and P2P data objects.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA migration projects and the SAP Migration Cockpit.
- Experience across multiple full-cycle migration / cutover programmes.
- Experience of Retail operations and related master data (desirable).
- Experience on Data Sphere, SAC would be a plus.

Preferred Certifications

- SAP BusinessObjects Data Services (BODS) certification
- SAP S/4HANA or SAP MM certification (desirable)
- SAP Certified – Data Migration / Migration Cockpit (desirable)

Desirable Experience

- SAP S/4HANA greenfield / brownfield data migration
- Multi-object migration (Inventory, Batch, Material Valuation)
- Data cleansing and harmonization projects
- Retail operations (Article / Item / SKU) data
- Offshore delivery within large SAP transformation programme’s.
- End to End Implementation experience on the SAP BDC.
