About CocopiñaCocopiña is a US women's clothing brand based in San Diego. We make feminine pieces designed for travel and real life, produced in Jaipur.

OverviewYou will work closely with both founders on every stage of product development: refining specs, building tech packs, reviewing samples, and solving problems together. Most of this is genuine collaboration, not a checklist handed off to work through alone.

Where you do work independently is on the ground in Jaipur, representing us directly with vendors: managing timelines, catching quality issues, and making the calls that need someone physically there. We want a real creative counterpart who brings ideas, and who we can trust to run that part of the job on their own judgment.

Responsibilities

- Design input Construction and feasibility feedback on new pieces. Propose fixes, not just problems. Bring ideas.
- Improve existing styles Help improve fit, construction, and finishing on pieces already in the line. Run the correction cycle end to end and update every record it touches.

- Tech packs and specs Build and maintain them with us, precisely, with clean version control. Central to the role. Our existing tech packs, specs, and sample records need to be audited, corrected, reconciled, and added to the PLM.
- Factory communication Brief the tailor and on-site team in Hindi. Hold our intent through construction conversations. Visit the units when needed.

- Sampling Help manage the full cycle: proto, fit, PP. Review against spec, drive corrections, seal and log approved samples.
- Sourcing Help evaluate fabrics and trims, prepare costings, support supplier negotiations.
- Stock continuity Hold lead times, flag material risk early, manage reorders, confirm repeats match the sealed sample.
- Production oversight Timelines, on-site checks, catching drift between spec and what's actually made.




- Timelines and supply chain Hold every deadline, keep the supply chain running without gaps, and identify ways to make the process faster or more reliable.
- Quality oversight Confirm the inspector has the right sample and spec, review reports, escalate problems with photos and measurements. Full inspection is done by a third party; you oversee it.

RequirementsEssential

- Confident and direct with vendors
- Hands-on problem solver: resolves issues, not just reports them
- Escalation management experience: knows what to resolve directly and what to bring to us
- Reliable and accurate in reporting
- Works well under pressure and against deadlines
- Fashion design education or equivalent hands-on experience, enough to discuss patterns, fabrics, and construction as an equal.

Design isn't the core of the role

- 5+ years in apparel product development or merchandising, women's fashion, export house, buying house, or brand side
- Experience with US, EU, AU, or JP brands. US strongly preferred
- Has run development through to bulk production, not just supported a senior merchant
- Fluent Hindi, strong English
- Based in Jaipur
- Broad hands-on fabric experience: quality, hand-feel, drape, recommending the right material
- Documentation discipline

Preferred

- Experience with small international brands building tech packs from scratch
- Carryover-style continuity experience
- Lab dips, strike-offs, colorway extensions
- AQL / third-party inspection familiarity
- CAD or pattern software

- Independent contractor, home-based, factory visits as needed

- Flat monthly retainer preferred; hourly considered. No commission on order value, no supplier-side compensation
