Role Description
This is an unpaid internship role for a PERN Stack Developer Intern at Small Fare®, and the position is fully remote. The intern will assist in building, testing, and maintaining web applications using PostgreSQL, Express.js, React, and Node.js across Small Fare®’s portfolio of brands. Day-to-day tasks may include implementing new features, fixing bugs, writing clean and maintainable code, and integrating APIs and third-party services.
The intern will collaborate with senior developers and product teams,
participate in code reviews, and contribute to documentation and basic DevOps or deployment processes. This internship is designed to provide practical experience in modern web development and exposure to real-world product environments.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess foundational skills in JavaScript, React, Node.js, and Express.js for full-stack web development.
- Candidates should possess skills in working with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, including basic schema design and query writing.
- Candidates should possess skills in RESTful API development, integration of third-party services, and handling JSON-based data flows.
- Candidates should possess skills in version control (Git), collaborative development workflows, and basic debugging techniques.
- Candidates should possess skills in responsive UI development, basic HTML/CSS, and familiarity with modern front-end tooling.
- Relevant skills and qualifications include strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and effective remote communication.
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a program in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field is beneficial but not required.
- Prior personal or academic projects using the PERN stack or similar technologies are a strong plus.
