Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare the Operation Theatre, surgical instruments, equipment and required consumables before procedures.

- Assist surgeons and anaesthetists during surgical and operative procedures.

- Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques throughout the procedure.

- Perform pre-operative preparation and post-operative care of patients.

- Ensure proper patient identification, consent verification and surgical-site verification.

- Maintain and follow the Surgical Safety Checklist.

- Maintain accurate instrument, sponge and needle counts before, during and after surgery.

- Monitor availability of OT drugs, instruments, implants, sutures and other consumables.

- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of OT equipment and instruments.

- Coordinate with CSSD, ICU, wards, laboratory, blood bank, pharmacy and other departments.

- Ensure safe transfer and proper handover of patients after surgery.

- Maintain OT registers, surgical records, checklists and other required documentation.





- Monitor functioning of OT equipment and report defects or maintenance requirements.

- Follow infection-control, biomedical-waste management, fire-safety and hospital safety protocols.

- Maintain adequate inventory and ensure timely replenishment of OT supplies.

- Participate in emergency procedures, mock drills, audits and quality-improvement activities.

- Maintain patient confidentiality and qualified conduct at all times.

- Work effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, technicians and other healthcare professionals.
