About the Role
We are looking for a Legal Officer to support its day-to-day legal operations across lending, recovery, documentation, compliance and legal proceedings.
The role is particularly suited to a candidate with a practical understanding of financial-sector documentation, loan recovery, legal notices, cheque-bounce matters, case coordination, and interaction with advocates/authorities.
The candidate will work closely with internal departments and external legal professionals to ensure that legal matters are properly documented, followed up and resolved promptly.
Key Responsibilities
1. Loan & Recovery Legal Support
- Handle legal activities related to loan recovery and outstanding dues.
- Review loan-related documents and identify documentation or legal gaps.
- Assist in preparing and issuing legal notices to borrowers, guarantors and other concerned parties.
- Support recovery proceedings and maintain proper documentation of recovery cases.
- Coordinate with the recovery/collection team on cases requiring legal intervention.
- Follow up on cases involving default, dishonoured cheques and other recovery-related matters.
2. Litigation & Case Coordination
- Coordinate with external advocates for ongoing civil, criminal and recovery matters.
- Maintain an updated database of all legal cases, notices, hearings and case status.
- Track court dates, filing requirements and advocate follow-ups.
- Collect and provide relevant documents/information to advocates for case preparation.
- Follow up on pending matters and ensure timely escalation to management.
- Assist in matters relating to the Negotiable Instruments Act,
including cheque dishonour/Section 138 proceedings, wherever applicable.
3. Legal Documentation
- Draft and review legal notices, replies, undertakings, declarations, agreements and other legal correspondence.
- Review loan, security, mortgage, guarantee and other relevant documentation.
- Ensure that important legal documents are properly maintained and readily accessible.
- Assist in strengthening documentation processes to reduce future legal risk.
4. Compliance & Regulatory Support
- Assist management and internal departments with legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the Society's operations.
- Monitor relevant changes in applicable laws and regulations affecting cooperative financial activities.
- Assist with documentation required for regulatory, statutory or governmental matters.
- Highlight potential legal/compliance risks to the reporting manager.
5. Internal Legal Support
- Provide practical legal assistance to departments such as Loan, Recovery, Accounts, Operations and Administration.
- Review specific business cases and provide preliminary legal inputs.
- Assist management in evaluating legal risks before taking action.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel whenever specialist legal advice is required.
6. Records & Reporting
- Maintain proper records of legal notices, cases, agreements, court documents and related correspondence.
- Prepare periodic reports on pending legal matters and recovery-related legal cases.
- Maintain a tracker for court hearings, notices,
filings and important deadlines.
- Ensure timely follow-up on all assigned legal matters.
Candidate Profile
Essential
- LL.B. / Bachelor of Laws from a recognised institution.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Practical knowledge of legal drafting and documentation.
- Valuable understanding of civil/criminal procedures and basic litigation processes.
- Strong communication and follow-up skills.
- Ability to work with advocates, courts, authorities and internal teams.
- Good command of MS Office and legal documentation.
Preferred
- Experience in a cooperative society, bank, NBFC, financial institution, lending company or recovery/legal firm.
- Exposure to loan recovery and financial documentation.
- Knowledge of Negotiable Instruments Act / Section 138 matters.
- Experience handling legal notices and coordinating litigation.
- Basic understanding of property/mortgage documentation would be an advantage.

What We Are Looking For We are looking for a hands-on Legal Officer, not a purely academic/legal research profile.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable taking ownership of routine legal matters, following up with advocates and internal teams, maintaining case documentation, supporting recovery activities and escalating complex matters to senior management or external counsel when required.
A candidate with practical exposure to financial-sector legal work and recovery matters will be preferred.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
