Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and certified HVAC Technician to join our engineering and maintenance team in Kochi. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul of marine-grade heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems aboard ships and across yard facilities.

Key Responsibilities

- Install, test, and commission marine HVAC units, direct expansion (DX) systems, marine chillers, fan coil units (FCUs), and air handling units (AHUs) aboard vessels.
- Lay out, connect, and braze refrigerant copper piping, insulated ducting, expansion valves, and drainage lines according to marine engineering schematics.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

- Conduct routine preventive maintenance, including filter changes, coil chemical cleaning, belt adjustments, blower balancing, and motor lubrication.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in compressors (reciprocating, screw, scroll), condensing units, thermostats, pressure switches, and control panels.
- Perform leak detection, pressure testing (nitrogen holding), vacuuming,



and precise charging of refrigerants in compliance with environmental standards.

Ventilation & Air Distribution:

- Inspect, service, and balance galley exhaust hoods, engine room supply/exhaust blowers, accommodation ventilation ducts, and fire dampers.
- Ensure correct airflow, static pressure, and temperature regulation inside wheelhouses, control rooms, accommodation cabins, and switchboard compartments.

Yard & Marine Safety Compliance:

- Work safely inside cramped shipboard compartments, engine rooms, and elevated deck areas in compliance with shipyard HSE guidelines.
- Follow strict hot-work permit procedures during brazing and gas-welding inside vessel spaces.
- Maintain clean, organized tools and ensure recovery of refrigerants without atmospheric venting.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: ITI / Diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (RAC) or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in HVAC installation and maintenance, with substantial exposure to marine vessels, shipyards, offshore platforms, or heavy industrial refrigeration plants.

Technical Skills:

- Proficient in copper-to-copper and copper-to-brass oxy-acetylene brazing.
- Solid knowledge of reading HVAC electrical control schematics, wiring contactors, relays, and PLCs/thermostats.
- Expert in using manifold gauges, vacuum pumps, recovery units, and multimeters.

Physical Capabilities:

- Fit to work in typical shipyard conditions: marine coastal environments, engine rooms, machinery spaces, and elevated ship sections.
