ROLE MANDATE Own the complete electrical, instrumentation, automation and control-system workstream from engineering and vendor integration through construction, statutory inspection, energization, loop/logic testing, integrated commissioning and reliable operational handover.
REPORTING & KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Internal interfaces
General Manager - Projects; Project Management Office; Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Design, Procurement, Contracts, Finance, Quality, EHS, Commissioning and Operations Readiness teams.
External interfaces
EPC/EPCM partners, design consultants, licensors, OEMs, third-party inspection agencies, contractors, statutory authorities and utility agencies, as applicable.
People leadership
Electrical and Instrumentation Senior Managers/Managers, Engineers, Assistant Engineers, technicians and contractor/OEM teams.
INTERNAL CONTROL The manpower budget is for recruitment planning and approval control. Remove internal CTC data before publishing the JD externally.
Role Purpose
Own the complete electrical, instrumentation, automation and control-system workstream from engineering and vendor integration through construction, statutory inspection, energization, loop/logic testing, integrated commissioning and reliable operational handover.
Key Responsibilities
1. Define and execute the E&I; strategy for power receipt/distribution, substations, switchyards, drives, plant electrics, instrumentation, PLC/DCS/SCADA,
communications and control architecture.
2. Lead review of design basis, load flow, short-circuit/protection studies, SLDs, layouts, cable schedules, earthing, control philosophy, instrument index, loop diagrams and cause-and-effect logic.
3. Support procurement through technical specifications, bid evaluation, vendor drawing approval, FAT plans, expediting priorities and long-lead readiness.
4. Plan protected construction, cable/earthing installation, panel and instrument erection, testing, calibration, loop checks, logic testing, SAT and system energization.
5. Establish energization governance, isolation/LOTO, test-pack control, statutory inspection readiness, relay-setting control and authorized switching protocols.
6. Integrate OEM packages and plant-wide automation, ensuring signal/database consistency, interface management, redundancy, alarm/interlock integrity and reliable control-room operation.
7. Govern E&I; contractors for work-front readiness, productivity, quality, material control, progress measurement, billing and recovery actions.
8. Coordinate with Mechanical, Civil, Process, Design, Procurement, Quality, EHS, Planning, Commissioning and Operations for integrated system readiness.
9. Control E&I; budget, forecast, changes, variations, spares, commissioning consumables and value engineering while protecting safety and reliability.
10.Develop the E&I; team and ensure complete test records, calibration traceability, red-line/as-built documents, software backups, turnover dossiers and training. Critical First-Year Outcomes
11.Approved power-system, automation and integrated commissioning strategy with statutory and safety gates.
12.Priority design studies, SLDs,
cable/IO data and vendor documents available by procurement and construction need dates.
13.Safe energization with verified protection, earthing, interlocks, calibration and controlled switching documentation.
14.System-wise loop/logic completion and stable integrated automation during trial and performance testing.
15.Complete as-built, test, calibration, backup, spares, training and handover documentation.
Candidate Profile
Minimum qualification
B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering; substantial instrumentation/automation project accountability is essential.
Preferred qualification
M.Tech in Power Systems or a relevant postgraduate qualification in industrial automation/control systems.
Mandatory / preferred credentials
Electrical safety and statutory compliance knowledge required; ETAP and PLC/DCS/OEM certifications or PMP preferred.
Industry exposure
Integrated steel/power, process manufacturing or heavy industrial projects with HV/MV/LV distribution and plant-wide automation.
Greenfield / commissioning
Greenfield and commissioning/energization experience mandatory; Brownfield/shutdown integration preferred.
Digital / software capability
ETAP, EPLAN/AutoCAD review, PLC/DCS platforms such as Siemens PCS 7 or ABB 800xA, SAP/ERP, Primavera/MS Project awareness and digital commissioning/document systems.
