Company Description

CloudGate is a Microsoft Solutions Partner, specializing in cloud, security, data, and AI transformations for organizations across MENA and Africa. Headquartered in Sharjah Media City, with delivery centers in Cairo, Riyadh, Bangalore, and London, we provide comprehensive Microsoft-based solutions, including Azure infrastructure, Microsoft Security, Up-to-date Work tools, Data Analytics, and Managed Services. Our data platform practice assesses, migrates, and operates mission-critical database estates for banking, energy, telco, and large enterprise customers.

Recognized with multiple Advanced Specializations and accreditations, we focus on enabling businesses to modernize securely, enhance operational efficiencies, and drive innovation with Microsoft technologies.

Role Description

This is a full-time remote role as a Database Engineer at CloudGate, based in India and reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. This is a delivery role with a customer-facing edge: you'll own a customer's database estate end to end — assess it, prove the target design with a working proof of concept, run the workshop that aligns everyone, execute the migration, and keep it healthy afterwards.

Responsibilities include assessing estates with DMA, Azure Migrate, and SSMA; designing and executing migrations to Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure VMs, Azure Database for PostgreSQL and MySQL, and Cosmos DB; planning and rehearsing cutovers with proper validation, fallback, and rollback; and running online and offline migrations with Azure Database Migration Service, log shipping, backup and restore, or replication. You'll also tune and operate SQL Server and Azure SQL — execution plans, indexing, Query Store, HA/DR,

and backup strategy that actually gets restore-tested — implement database security and cost optimization, present assessment findings and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders, and produce the runbooks, cutover plans, and as-built documentation that customer DBA teams and CloudGate managed services pick up after go-live.

Qualifications

- 3–5 years of hands-on database engineering or DBA experience, with recent delivery work on Microsoft Azure
- Deep SQL Server expertise — T-SQL, indexing, execution plans, HA/DR, backup and restore, and instance-level configuration
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance, including their differences and migration implications
- Demonstrable migration experience — you have moved production databases to Azure and can talk through what went wrong and how you handled it
- Working knowledge of at least one open-source engine (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and exposure to a NoSQL platform (Cosmos DB or MongoDB)
- Practical use of migration tooling (DMA, Azure Database Migration Service, SSMA, or Azure Migrate) and scripting in PowerShell, T-SQL, or Azure CLI
- Customer-facing ability — you can run a workshop, present findings, and hold your position with a customer's DBA team
- Strong written and spoken English, with assessment reports and runbooks that need minimal rework
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field, and an owner's mindset — you ship what you commit to and flag risks early
- Bonus: DP-300 (AZ-305, AZ-104, DP-600, DP-700 also valued), heterogeneous migration experience (Oracle to PostgreSQL or SQL Server), SSIS/SSRS/SSAS or Azure Data Factory, Bicep or Terraform, and prior delivery to banking, fintech, telco, energy, or public sector customers in MENA or Africa
