Cost Estimation Engineer – Cost Engineering & Strategic Sourcing

Location: Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

Experience: 5+ Years

About the Role

Inticore Engineering is looking for a Cost Estimation Engineer who can combine manufacturing expertise, cost engineering and commercial thinking to establish competitive and defensible component costs.

This role will be responsible for developing should-cost models, analysing supplier quotations, benchmarking manufacturing costs, supporting sourcing negotiations and driving cost-reduction initiatives across Inticore's manufacturing partner network.

The ideal candidate will be someone who understands not only what a component costs, but why it costs what it does — from raw material and process cycle time to tooling, machine utilisation, labour, overheads, logistics and supplier margins.

Key ResponsibilitiesCost Engineering & Should Costing

- Develop bottom-up should-cost models for automotive and engineering components.
- Build detailed cost structures covering BOM, raw material, process, labour, machine, tooling, overhead, logistics and supplier margin.
- Analyse manufacturing cycle times, material utilisation, process yields and cost drivers.
- Validate supplier quotations against target costs, benchmarks and market intelligence.
- Establish reliable target-cost and cost-breakdown models for sourcing decisions.

Manufacturing Process Costing Perform cost analysis across key manufacturing processes including:

Casting: Die Casting, Sand Casting

Metal Forming: Forging, Stamping, Deep Drawing

Machining: CNC Turning, Milling and Multi-operation Machining

Fabrication: Welding, Assembly and Surface Treatment

Plastics & Rubber:



Injection Moulding, Overmoulding, Compression Moulding and Extrusion

Supplier Benchmarking & Sourcing

- Benchmark supplier pricing across regional and global manufacturing sources.
- Support RFQ analysis, supplier evaluation and sourcing decisions.
- Prepare fact-based cost breakdowns to strengthen supplier negotiations.
- Identify cost gaps, inefficiencies and opportunities for supplier competitiveness.
- Evaluate localisation, alternate sourcing and manufacturing footprint opportunities.
- Participate in supplier and manufacturing-partner discussions as the cost-engineering representative.

VA/VE & Cost Reduction
- Drive Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives.
- Identify opportunities through design-to-cost, process optimisation, material substitution and localisation.
- Develop annual cost-reduction and productivity improvement opportunities.
- Conduct teardown and benchmarking studies where required.
- Translate technical opportunities into measurable commercial savings.

Commodity & Market Intelligence
- Track movement in steel, aluminium, copper, engineering plastics and other key commodities.
- Monitor labour, energy, freight and regional manufacturing cost trends.
- Maintain current cost benchmarks to support pricing, budgeting and sourcing decisions.

Digital Cost Engineering
- Develop and maintain cost databases, costing templates and historical benchmarks.




- Improve costing processes through Excel, ERP/SAP, Power BI and analytics tools.
- Support development of automated and AI-enabled costing and benchmarking systems.
- Prepare management dashboards and cost-engineering reports.

Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in Cost Engineering, Cost Estimation, Manufacturing Engineering, Value Engineering or Strategic Procurement.
- Experience in automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, auto-component manufacturers or engineering MSMEs preferred.
- Strong practical understanding of manufacturing processes and cost drivers.
- Demonstrated experience in should-costing, supplier quotation analysis, BOM costing and cost breakdowns.
- Exposure to supplier negotiations and commercial decision-making will be an advantage.
