Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Head – Accounts & Finance to lead the organization's accounting and finance function.

The role will be responsible for ensuring accurate books of accounts, timely statutory compliance, financial reporting, budgeting, cash-flow management, audit coordination, internal controls and financial planning.

The ideal candidate should be both strategic and hands-on, capable of independently managing the finance function while working closely with management, program teams, HR, vendors, auditors and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities1. Accounting & Financial Management

- Lead day-to-day accounting and finance operations.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
- Oversee maintenance of ledgers, journals, accounts payable, receivables and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing of accounts.
- Review accounting entries and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.
- Maintain proper documentation and financial records.
- Develop and strengthen accounting processes and controls.

2. Financial Reporting & MIS
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and MIS reports.
- Provide management with meaningful financial analysis and insights.
- Prepare budget-versus-actual analysis and highlight significant variances.
- Develop project/program-wise financial reports wherever required.
- Track expenditure against approved budgets.
- Present financial information to senior management in a clear and decision-oriented manner.

3. Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting and financial planning process.
- Work with program and operational teams to prepare realistic budgets.
- Monitor actual expenditure against approved budgets.
- Identify cost optimization and efficiency opportunities.
- Prepare cash-flow forecasts and ensure adequate liquidity.
- Support management in financial decision-making and resource allocation.

4. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure timely compliance with applicable taxation and financial regulations.
- Oversee GST, TDS and other applicable statutory compliances.
- Coordinate with tax consultants and other professional advisors.
- Ensure proper maintenance of statutory records and documentation.
- Monitor changes in applicable laws and assess their impact on the organization.




- Ensure compliance with applicable requirements relating to charitable/non-profit organizations, where relevant.

5. Audit & Assurance
- Coordinate statutory, internal and other audits.
- Prepare audit schedules, supporting documents and financial information.
- Act as the primary finance point of contact for auditors.
- Ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Strengthen internal financial controls based on audit findings.
- Maintain an audit-ready financial documentation system.

6. Internal Controls & Governance
- Establish and monitor strong financial controls.
- Review payment authorization, procurement and expense processes.
- Ensure segregation of duties and appropriate approval mechanisms.
- Monitor financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop SOPs for accounting, payments, expenses, procurement and financial reporting.
- Prevent financial leakages, errors and control weaknesses.

7. Cash, Banking & Treasury
- Manage banking operations and bank relationships.
- Monitor daily/weekly cash positions.
- Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts.
- Ensure timely vendor, employee and statutory payments.
- Review bank reconciliations and resolve outstanding items.
- Ensure optimum utilization of available funds.

8. Vendor & Payables Management
- Oversee vendor invoice verification and payment processes.
- Ensure proper documentation and approval before payments.
- Monitor outstanding payables and ageing.
- Work with procurement and operations teams to improve payment efficiency.
- Support negotiation and cost optimization with vendors where required.

9. Project / Program Finance
- Monitor finances of various EcoKranti projects and programs.
- Track project-wise budgets, expenses and utilization.
- Ensure expenses are aligned with approved objectives and budgets.
- Prepare project financial statements and utilization reports where required.
- Support program teams with financial planning and controls.

10. Team Management
- Lead, supervise and mentor the accounts/finance team.
- Define responsibilities, processes and performance expectations.
- Review team deliverables and ensure timely completion.
- Build a culture of accuracy, accountability and financial discipline.
- Identify training and development needs of the finance team.

11. Management Support
- Provide financial inputs for strategic and operational decisions.
- Support management in evaluating new projects, investments and initiatives.
- Prepare financial models and business cases when required.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process automation.
- Act as a trusted financial advisor to the leadership team.

Candidate ProfileEducational Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or related field.
- CA / CMA / MBA Finance or equivalent professional qualification will be an advantage.

Experience
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in accounts and finance.
- Experience in independently managing an accounting/finance function is preferred.
- Experience in NGOs, social-impact organizations, charitable institutions, foundations, development organizations or mission-driven organizations will be an advantage.
- Experience handling audits, taxation, budgeting and MIS is essential.
