CONTENT WRITER & SOCIAL MEDIA EXECUTIVE
Work arrangement: Full-time
Experience required: 1–3 years
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an original, highly capable writer who can also manage the daily execution of social-media communication across exhibitions, galleries, cultural programmes and creative projects.
Writing is the central requirement of this position. The selected candidate must be able to produce rigorous editorial writing as well as effective advertising copy. They should know how to research a subject, identify a meaningful angle, build a coherent argument or narrative, and write with clarity, accuracy and a distinct human voice.
We particularly welcome applicants from journalism, art history, art writing, anthropology, cultural studies, editorial publishing, literature, communications and advertising. Candidates should be able to move between close engagement with artworks, broader cultural research and concise public communication.
All submitted and published writing must be the candidate’s own original work. We are not looking for someone who depends on generative AI to produce captions, articles, campaign ideas or first drafts. AI-generated, paraphrased or superficially reworked material will not be accepted.
NON-NEGOTIABLE WRITING REQUIREMENT The candidate must be capable of writing independently from research, interviews, artworks, exhibitions, conversations and creative briefs.
They must demonstrate
- Original thought and original written expression.
- Strong editorial judgement and the ability to identify a specific angle.
- The ability to closely observe and interpret artworks, objects, images and cultural material.
- The ability to connect individual works with relevant historical, social and cultural contexts.
- The ability to build a coherent narrative rather than assemble disconnected statements.
- Proper research, interviewing, source verification and fact-checking.
- An understanding of context, audience, tone and purpose.
- The ability to distinguish critical or editorial writing from advertising copywriting.
- Precise, persuasive copy that communicates an idea without resorting to clichés.
- The ability to write distinctively for different artists, exhibitions, institutions and campaigns.
- The discipline to revise their work and respond intelligently to editorial feedback.
- Complete honesty regarding the authorship and preparation of submitted work.
Generative AI must not be used to write, rewrite, paraphrase or ideate any assignment, draft, caption, article, campaign line or application sample. Submitting AI-generated material as original work will be grounds for immediate disqualification or, after appointment, disciplinary action.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Editorial and cultural writing
- Research and write original content about artists, artworks, exhibitions, cultural practices, institutions and public programmes.
- Develop artist introductions, exhibition narratives, interviews, articles, newsletters and website features.
- Closely examine artworks and visual material before developing interpretations or written narratives.
- Situate artists and practices within relevant art-historical, social, material and cultural contexts.
- Identify specific editorial angles instead of applying the same narrative formula to every project.
- Conduct interviews and convert them into accurate, readable and well-structured pieces.
- Work with credible primary, institutional, academic and published sources.
- Maintain research notes, interview records, citations and source links.
- Verify every name, date, quotation, artwork detail and historical claim.
- Revise drafts through a structured editorial process.
- Write accessibly without flattening the intellectual or cultural complexity of the subject.
Advertising copywriting
- Develop original campaign headlines, hooks, calls to action and short-form copy.
- Write exhibition announcements, invitations, promotional captions, mailers and campaign sequences.
- Translate strategic and curatorial ideas into concise, persuasive public communication.
- Adapt copy for Instagram, LinkedIn, websites, email, WhatsApp and printed material.
- Understand the difference between informing, interpreting, persuading, inviting and building long-term positioning.
- Avoid generic promotional language, empty superlatives, clichés and repetitive formats.
- Maintain the approved voice of each client, project and institution.
Social-media management
- Develop and maintain monthly and project-specific content calendars.
- Plan coherent content narratives rather than treating posts as isolated units.
- Schedule and publish approved posts, stories and reels.
- Coordinate photographs, videos, artwork information, captions and credits.
- Ensure the accuracy of artist names, dates, venues, timings and partner acknowledgements.
- Monitor comments and messages and escalate enquiries requiring an official response.

- Assist with live coverage during exhibitions, previews and public programmes.
- Prepare explicit monthly performance reports and recommend practical improvements.
Research and fact-checking
- Research artists, artworks, movements, exhibitions, institutions and cultural subjects.
- Examine relevant histories, communities, material practices and social contexts where required.
- Use reliable sources and clearly record all references.
- Prepare concise research notes before beginning a draft.
- Separate verified facts, attributed perspectives, interpretation and promotional claims.
- Never fabricate quotations, biographies, achievements, provenance or artwork information.
- Confirm uncertainties with the relevant project lead before publication.
Creative coordination
- Prepare complete content briefs for designers, photographers and video editors.
- Supply final copy, references, image credits, dimensions and publishing deadlines.
- Check creative files for typographical errors, missing information, incorrect images and deviations from approved copy.
- Coordinate corrections and ensure that only final approved versions are published.
- Create straightforward content layouts and presentation material using Canva when required.
- Coordinate the collection of information and visual assets from clients, artists and project teams.
Campaign and event support
- Assist with exhibition launches, campaigns,
grants and public programmes.
- Prepare invitations, reminders, audience communication and follow-ups.
- Organise press images, biographies, artwork information and communication assets.
- Support RSVP tracking and audience-list management.
- Assist with on-ground and live social-media coverage.
- Travel or work occasional evenings and weekends when required, with compensatory leave as applicable.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- Excellent grammar, editing and proofreading skills.
- Strong attention to names, dates, quotations, credits and contextual details.
- Genuine engagement with art, culture, design, history and contemporary society.
- Ability to accept detailed editorial feedback and substantially improve a draft.
