The role is particularly suited to professionals who have gained practical exposure to construction projects, project execution, planning, billing, cost management, contracts, procurement, project controls, operations, or related project functions and want to apply that experience within a structured construction audit environment.
Role Description This is a full-time Audit Consultant role with a focus on civil analytics, based in Gurugram in a hybrid work arrangement that allows a combination of office-based and work-from-home days.
The Audit Consultant will review construction contracts, payment applications, change orders, and supporting documentation to validate project costs and identify potential overbilling or non-compliance.
Responsibilities :include analyzing financial and project data, assessing internal controls related to construction spend,
and preparing clear audit workpapers and reports for senior team members and clients.
- Execute defined construction audit test procedures under the supervision of senior consultants, following established audit methodology, testing protocols, and documentation standards.
- Review and test contractor and subcontractor, reconcile billed amounts to contracts.
What you will work on:
- Develop familiarity with U.S. construction contracting and billing terminology, including Contracts: GMP, Lump Sum, Cost Plus, Unit Price, Guaranteed Maximum Price amendments, Change Orders, Change Directives, Allowances, Contingencies, General Conditions, General Requirements, retainage, bonds, insurance, subcontractor default insurance (SDI), and closeout requirements.
- Prepare clear, complete, and traceable audit workpapers/test papers documenting the audit objective, population, sample selection, testing performed, evidence reviewed, results, exceptions, and conclusions.
- Maintain appropriate audit trail and evidence linkage so that testing results can be independently reviewed and reproduced.
- Assist in identifying control gaps, documentation gaps, contract-compliance gaps, process weaknesses, and cost-recovery opportunities.
- Draft concise audit observations using a structured approach such as condition, criteria, cause, impact/risk, and recommendation, under senior consultant guidance.
- Use approved AI-enabled audit and productivity tools to assist with document review, data extraction, contract analysis,
transaction classification, exception identification, reconciliation, summarization, and preparation of audit documentation.
- Validate AI-generated outputs against source documentation and apply professional judgment before incorporating results into audit workpapers or deliverables.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other approved analytics and audit-management tools.
. The Audit Consultant may assist in developing analytical tools, templates, and training materials to enhance the firm’s civil analytics and audit methodologies.
Qualifications
- Strong Analytical Skills, including data review, variance analysis, and interpretation of complex project and financial information.
- Knowledge of Internal Controls related to construction projects, procurement, and payment processes.
- Foundational understanding of Finance and Financial Statements, particularly as they relate to capital projects and cost tracking.
- Accounting skills, including familiarity with audit procedures, documentation standards, and cost validation techniques.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field; professional.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, data visualization or BI tools) and comfort working with large datasets.
- Transparent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Attention to detail, high ethical standards, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work setting.
- Prior experience in construction auditing, project controls, or capital project finance is preferred but not mandatory for strong analytical candidates.
