The Position
We are seeking a seasoned Kafka Administrator to serve as the second-level escalation point within our 24×7 managed services team. You will own the stability and performance of large-scale Kafka clusters resolving complex incidents, driving root cause analyses, and working alongside architects to evolve the infrastructure. Deep expertise in Confluent Kafka and a bias for automation is essential to succeeding in this role.
Preferred Qualifications
4 to 6 years of Industry experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
3 to 4 years of relevant experience
Key Responsibilities
Own L2 escalations and perform root cause analysis for complex Kafka incidents and
recurring failures.
Design and enforce security configurations: SSL/TLS, Kerberos authentication, and
ACL management.
Build and maintain automation scripts and monitoring pipelines to reduce toil and
improve observability.
Optimise cluster performance through configuration tuning, capacity planning, and
resource management.
Collaborate with Kafka Architects to plan and execute upgrades, scaling operations,
and migrations.
Mentor L1 engineers, maintain operational runbooks, and ensure strict adherence to
SLAs.
Experience and Essential Skills
Confluent Kafka expertise — Proven hands-on administration of large-scale Kafka
clusters, with solid Linux sysadmin skills and solid networking fundamentals.
Security & compliance — Hands-on experience with Kafka security implementations:
SSL/TLS, Kerberos, and ACL configuration.
Automation & observability — Scripting proficiency in Bash or Python; working
knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, and Kibana for monitoring and alerting.
Cloud-native & messaging ecosystem — Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and
alternate messaging systems (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ) within microservices or DevOps environments.
