Job Description – Manager (Structure Erection, EOT Crane & Coil Transfer Car)

Job Purpose

To lead and manage structural erection, mechanical installation, EOT crane, and coil transfer car activities in a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) plant. The position will be responsible for safe and timely execution, equipment installation, alignment, commissioning support, maintenance, contractor management, and achieving project and plant reliability targets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Structural Erection

- Manage and supervise erection of plant structural works as per approved drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
- Handle erection of steel structures, platforms, galleries, walkways, staircases, ladders, handrails, equipment-support structures, pipe racks, operating floors, and maintenance platforms.
- Ensure proper alignment, leveling, elevation, centerline, verticality, bolting, and welding of erected structures.
- Review GA, fabrication, erection, and structural drawings and coordinate with engineering and site teams.
- Plan and supervise heavy structural erection using cranes and other lifting equipment.
- Coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical and commissioning teams for proper work sequencing.
- Ensure quality inspection of fabrication, welding, bolting, and dimensional accuracy.
- Manage structural modification, strengthening, rectification, and punch-point closure.
- Prepare and monitor erection schedules, daily progress, manpower, equipment, and material requirements.

2. EOT Crane

- Manage installation, erection, commissioning, operation support,



and maintenance of EOT/overhead cranes.
- Ensure reliability of hoisting, cross-travel, long-travel, brakes, gearboxes, couplings, wheels, ropes, drums, hooks, and safety devices.
- Plan preventive and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Coordinate statutory inspection, load testing, certification, and safety compliance.
- Conduct RCA for repetitive crane failures and implement corrective actions.

3. Coil Transfer Car

- Manage installation, commissioning, operation support, and maintenance of coil transfer cars and coil handling systems.
- Ensure reliability of wheels, rails, drive systems, gearboxes, brakes, couplings, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and structural components.
- Coordinate with electrical, automation, and instrumentation teams for interlocks, sensors, drives, and control systems.
- Plan preventive maintenance and ensure availability of critical spares.
- Improve equipment reliability and minimize breakdowns.

4. Project Execution & Commissioning

- Coordinate mechanical erection and installation activities from material receipt through mechanical completion and commissioning.
- Monitor contractors for productivity, quality, safety, and schedule adherence.
- Review method statements, lifting plans, JSA, risk assessments, and work permits.
- Coordinate with OEMs, consultants, contractors, and project teams.
- Ensure timely completion of milestones and closure of punch points.
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, trial runs,



performance testing, and final handover.

5. Safety & Quality

- Ensure strict compliance with plant safety standards and statutory requirements.
- Control risks associated with heavy lifting, working at height, hot work, welding, crane operation, and erection activities.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, LOTO, work permits, scaffolding, lifting tackles, and safety equipment.
- Coordinate QA/QC inspection of structural and mechanical works.
- Ensure all work is executed according to approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

6. Team & Contractor Management

- Lead engineers, supervisors, technicians, and contract manpower.
- Plan manpower and equipment requirements for erection and maintenance activities.
- Monitor contractor performance and productivity.
- Conduct daily review meetings and track progress against planned targets.
- Develop team capabilities through technical and safety training.

Required Skills & Experience

- 10–15 years of experience in steel plant / CRM / rolling mill / heavy engineering industry.
- Strong experience in structural erection and mechanical installation.
- Hands-on experience with EOT cranes and coil transfer cars.
- Good knowledge of structural drawings, fabrication, welding, bolting, alignment, and heavy lifting.
- Experience in project execution, shutdowns, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Valuable knowledge of lifting plans, safety procedures, and work-at-height requirements.
- Experience in contractor and manpower management.
- Knowledge of SAP and MS Office will be an advantage.
