About Athena
Athena Education is India’s leading college admissions consultancy, guiding around 1,000 students each year toward the world’s most selective universities. With offices in Gurgaon, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, a rapidly growing international client base, and a team of approximately 180 people across counselling, academics, product, and operations, Athena is continuing to scale its footprint and capabilities.
About the Role
This will be Athena’s first dedicated IT hire , with end-to-end ownership of the organization’s technology environment.
Our students and families trust us with highly sensitive information, including academic transcripts, financial information, personal essays, and university portal access. Your role will be to ensure that Athena’s technology ecosystem is secure, reliable, well-managed, and cost-efficient as the organization grows.
This is a high-ownership role with a clear mandate, significant autonomy, and direct access to leadership. You will have the opportunity to build and strengthen Athena’s IT infrastructure, systems, security practices, and processes from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
- Device & Endpoint Security: Own the complete laptop fleet across Athena’s three offices, including asset management, mobile device management (MDM), disk encryption, patching, antivirus, and the secure issuance and recovery of devices.
- Identity & Access Management: Implement and manage single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), role-based access controls, and same-day access provisioning and revocation as team members join, transition roles, or exit the organization.
- Data Protection & Compliance: Ensure Athena remains aligned with India’s DPDP Act and relevant client-side data requirements. Establish and maintain data classification and retention policies, vendor agreements, and a tested incident-response framework.
- Credential & Records Security:
Move shared credentials and sensitive student records into secure, centralized, and auditable systems while establishing strong access and records-management practices.
- Network & Workplace Infrastructure: Manage internet connectivity and redundancy, Wi-Fi, VPNs, meeting-room AV, printing, and other workplace technology across the Gurgaon, Bengaluru, and Mumbai offices.
- Software & Cost Optimization: Build and maintain a centralized register of all software and technology tools used across Athena, including ownership, renewal dates, license counts, and costs. Identify opportunities to renegotiate contracts, consolidate tools, optimize licenses, and eliminate unnecessary expenditure.
- IT Support & Enablement: Build and manage an efficient internal helpdesk with clear service levels, ensure every new joiner is fully set up from Day 1, and create straightforward documentation that enables teams to resolve common issues independently.
