The Quality Director is a cornerstone of this plan: as we scale capacity and deepen relationships with premium global brands, the consistency, credibility, and continuous improvement of our quality function will define our competitiveness.
Role Summary The Head of Quality will head the quality department across all MIL factories, with end-to-end ownership of quality systems, people, and outcomes. This is a senior leadership role that combines hands-on technical judgement with system-building, team development, and direct engagement with buyers, inspection agencies, and auditors. The role is based full time in Salem and requires relocation.
Key Responsibilities
• Systems creation & adherence: Install, document, and execute appropriate quality systems across factories, and ensure disciplined day-to-day adherence on the shop floor. Meenakshi India limited operates at an AQL 1.0 level of quality with extremely stringent and demanding customer base.
• Critical quality decisions:
Exercise sound, commercially aware judgement on acceptable quality issues – making and standing behind critical accept/reject/rework decisions.
• Training & capability building: Formulate and run training programmes for quality control staff at all levels, building depth and consistency across multiple factories.
• Root cause analysis: Drive structured root cause analysis of quality problems arising in production, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented and sustained
.• Risk Analysis: Conduct effective risk analysis of all styles during sampling stage as well as during pre production phase to ensure that all product related risks are highlighted to the end customer in time and any ammendments to the product that need to be made to ensure consitent quality during production are made.
• Recruitment: Own recruitment of QCs and QAs – defining role requirements, assessing candidates, and building a strong quality team across units.
• External inspection: Coordinate with external third-party inspectors on inline and final inspection alignment and disputes, ensuring readiness and clean outcomes.
• Buyer engagement: Face off directly with buyers and their quality teams to explain and defend MIL’s quality setups, standards,
and improvement plans.
• MIS & reporting: Prepare and maintain management information systems (MIS) on quality performance – giving leadership clear, timely visibility of defect trends, inspection results, and improvement initiatives.
• Product handwriting: Drive continuous improvement of product handwriting – the make, finish, and overall presentation of our garments – to the standards expected by high-end export brands.
Candidate Profile
• Minimum 15 years of experience in production or quality at a managerial level in apparel manufacturing.
• Must have handled production of men’s woven trousers at a minimum of AQL 2.0 Level
• Must have dealt with the quality standards of high-end export brands, such as those MIL works with.
• Ideal candidates will have a background in apparel manufacturing at a factory, at an inspection agency such as SGS/Intertek/TUV, or in the quality team of a global fashion brand’s sourcing organisation.
• Strong command of AQL-based inspection, quality systems, and root cause methodologies.
• A leader capable of building teams, holding standards under commercial pressure, and representing the company credibly in front of international buyers.
• Must be willing to relocate to Salem, Tamil Nadu on a full-time basis.
