Hyderabad
Role: Software Development Engineer (SDE) – Frontend Focused
Location: Hyderabad, India - Onsite
Type: Full time, Paid
Minimum requirements: You have at least 1–2 years of production frontend experience, you have shipped scalable React / TypeScript (Next.js preferred) interfaces, and you can point us to live, deployed products that show your UI craft - not only a repository.
Who We Are
Steps AI is a product company building intelligent, AI-powered software for modern businesses. We design and ship production systems that combine strong user experience, reliable backends, and data-driven intelligence. We work with real customers, deploy to both cloud and on-premises environments, and move from prototype to production with a high bar for security, access control, and operational quality.
We are growing, shipping every week, and looking for engineers who can own a problem end to end - interface, API, data, security, and deployment - rather than a single layer of the stack.
The Role
We are hiring a Frontend-focused SDE to own the quality of the product experience: structure, visual clarity, interaction, and performance. You will spend most of your time on the interface, but you will not throw work over the wall. You will integrate with real APIs, respect authentication and role-based visibility, and help take a working demo to a polished, deployable product.
You will work with full-stack peers on the API and data model. You should be comfortable reading backend contracts, flagging when the UI needs a different API shape, and making design decisions when there is no finished Figma file.
What You Will Do
Core Frontend Development
- Build production-grade applications using React, TypeScript, and modern CSS (Tailwind or equivalent). Next.js (App Router) is strongly preferred.
- Create reusable components and a consistent design language: type, spacing, density, and interaction states.
- Implement application shells, navigation, filters, tables, forms, and empty / error / loading states that hold up in daily use.
- Optimize performance: code-splitting, list virtualization where needed, caching, and careful rendering.
- Ship responsive,
accessible interfaces across common devices and browsers.
Product UI - Dashboards and Workflows
- Build complex operational UIs: dashboards, data-heavy tables, charts, and interactive workflows.
- Implement map or location-aware views when the product needs them, with transparent legend, hover, and drill-through behaviour.
- Build AI-assisted surfaces when required (chat or assistant panels, streaming text, citations, structured actions) without sacrificing clarity.
- Ensure every view respects role-based visibility: what a user can see and click must match their permissions.
Design Responsibility
- Translate requirements and rough sketches into a coherent interface. Pixel-perfect when a design exists; disciplined taste when it does not.
- Own visual consistency across the product. You are accountable for the look and feel, not only for “making it work”.
- Use industry-standard UI tools (Figma or equivalent) to communicate proposals when that saves engineering time.
- Raise issues early when a workflow is confusing, overcrowded, or unsafe (for example, a destructive action without confirmation).
APIs, Auth, and Working With the Rest of the Stack
- Integrate with REST APIs from Node or Python services. Handle pagination, errors, and stale data correctly.
- Work with session or JWT authentication and render the product differently by role without leaking privileged UI.
- Use TanStack Query (or equivalent) for server state and a small, explicit store for client state.
- Partner with backend engineers on contract changes. You should be able to read an OpenAPI spec or a FastAPI router and reason about it.
- Contribute to the last mile of deployment: environment-specific configuration, build pipelines,
and verifying the UI on staging and on-premises installs.
Engineering Quality
- Write maintainable TypeScript. Prefer explicit types and small components over large files.
- Participate in code review and keep the frontend testable (component tests and critical-path E2E).
- Instrument the UI enough to debug production issues (meaningful errors, not silent empty screens).
- Travel occasionally to client or on-premises locations in Hyderabad for UAT, go-live support, or in office reviews.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Design, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 1–2+ years of production frontend experience (more is welcome).
- Strong React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript.
- Confidence with CSS layout and a utility or design-token approach (Tailwind or equivalent).
- Experience integrating authenticated APIs and handling real-world data, not only mock JSON.
- A portfolio that shows visual judgement: spacing, hierarchy, and polish you personally shipped.
- Willingness to work on-site in Hyderabad and to travel to client or on-premises sites as required.
Location, Work Mode, and Travel
This is a full-time, on-site role in Hyderabad, India. You will work in person with the engineering team.
Occasional travel is required. This includes travel to on-premises deployment locations and travel to client sites in Hyderabad for implementation, go-live, reviews, or production support. Travel is typically short-duration and planned; willingness to travel within Hyderabad (and occasionally nearby) is a condition of the role.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary with a clear growth path. Add salary range at posting.
- High-ownership work: you will influence architecture, security, and how the product is shipped.
- Exposure to AI-assisted products, enterprise-grade access control, and real production deployments.
- Fast execution cycles and a culture that values demonstrated capability over credentials alone.
- Learning budget for courses and certifications.
- Collaborative in-office engineering culture in Hyderabad.
