Firmware Testing & Validation Intern
Vanix Technologies Pvt Ltd - Hyderabad
Job Overview
Vanix Technologies is looking for a motivated Firmware Testing & Validation Intern to support our EVSE (EV charging station) firmware program, built on the Xilinx Zynq SoC. You'll prepare and execute test cases for low-level firmware, support hardware board bring-up, run hardware/firmware integration testing, and document findings with clear, actionable reports. This role sits within our EVSE firmware team, working on products spanning 7.4 - 22kW units.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute system-level validation plans for our EV charger firmware, covering functional, boundary, and regression test cases.
- Write and run test cases for low-level firmware components on the Zynq SOC platform (peripheral drivers, RTOS tasks, comms stacks).
- Support hardware board bring-up and initial hardware/firmware integration testing.
- Build test automation using Python (or similar scripting) to reduce manual test effort - e.g. around Modbus RTU/RS485 energy-meter communication, UI (LVGL) behavior, and charging-state transitions.
- Validate communication interfaces including RS485/Modbus (energy metering), BLE, and 4G/connectivity variants.
- Investigate field and bench issues, isolate root causes, and work with firmware/hardware engineers on corrective actions.
- Set up and support prototype test benches,
including early exploration of HIL testing for charger/vehicle-side simulation.
- Write clear validation reports with observations, defect logs, and improvement recommendations for firmware and hardware.
What You'll Bring
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Prior hands-on experience with Xilinx FPGA/SoC platforms; familiarity with TCL scripting and HDL.
- Working knowledge of RTOS concepts and how to prepare test cases around a RTOS based application.
- Basic understanding of power electronics concepts (relevant to AC charging hardware).
- Robust hardware/firmware debugging skills - comfortable tracing issues across the hardware/firmware boundary.
- Proficient with oscilloscopes, function generators, logic analyzers, and lab power supplies.
- Working knowledge of Python or another scripting language for test automation.
- Exposure to serial/field protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, RS485, Modbus, CAN, or similar) is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - you'll be documenting test results for engineering review.
- A keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Previous internship experience in embedded/firmware testing is strongly preferred.
