The role will establish common governance, develop the PLM team, harmonize NPI/NPD processes across business units, and connect engineering, product management, quality, sourcing, manufacturing, service, IT and PMO through controlled workflows and reliable product data.
Success
Definition - A capable PLM Centre of Excellence with explicit ownership, roles and service standards.
- Common product lifecycle processes and controls adopted across business units.
- Controlled product data, BOMs, documents, revisions and engineering changes with end-to-end traceability.
- Strong user adoption, measurable compliance and reduced dependence on spreadsheets, shared drives and offline approvals.
Key Accountabilities Enterprise PLM Strategy and Governance - Define the enterprise PLM vision, target operating model, governance framework and multi-year roadmap aligned with business growth priorities.
- Create common policies, standards, decision rights, RACI and review mechanisms for product lifecycle governance across business units.
- Ensure PLM priorities remain business-led, value-focused and integrated with PMO, digital transformation, quality and ERP programs. PLM Process Ownership and Standardization - Own and standardize end-to-end processes covering product concept, requirements, design, validation, industrialization, release, change, sustenance and obsolescence.
- Harmonize NPI/NPD stage-gate deliverables, approval criteria, lifecycle states and control points across business units while allowing approved variants where justified.
- Identify and eliminate duplicate data entry, manual handoffs,
uncontrolled trackers and non-value-adding approvals. PLM Platform and Solution Leadership - Provide business ownership for PTC Windchill and the broader PLM ecosystem, including requirements, workflow design, prioritization, release governance and adoption.
- Partner with IT and implementation partners to define scalable solution architecture, configuration principles, access controls, validation and support models.
- Govern integrations with SAP/ERP, CAD/ECAD, QMS, PMO/portfolio systems, MES and other upstream or downstream platforms as approved in the enterprise architecture.
Product
Data, BOM and Configuration Governance - Create governance for item masters, part numbering, product structures, engineering BOM, manufacturing BOM, service BOM and approved product configurations.
- Define ownership for BOM creation, validation, reconciliation, release and downstream transfer.
- Drive a single, reliable product record across functions and lifecycle stages.
Engineering
Change and Release Management - Establish disciplined ECR/ECN, deviation, waiver and release processes with clear impact assessment and approval accountability.
- Govern Change Review Board / Change Control Board mechanisms and ensure representation from affected functions.
- Track change ageing, implementation status, downstream synchronization and closure evidence.
PLM Team and Capability Development - Build the PLM function and define roles for solution leadership, process analysis, BOM/configuration control, engineering change coordination, data governance and PLM-to-ERP integration.
- Recruit, coach and develop team members;
create competency matrices, learning paths, operating procedures and succession coverage.
- Establish a PLM Centre of Excellence that supports business units through standards, training, problem resolution and continuous improvement.
- Create a network of business super-users and process champions to improve ownership and adoption.
Decision
Rights - Recommend and maintain enterprise PLM policies, process standards and governance controls.
- Approve process designs and business requirements before PLM configuration, subject to applicable authority matrix.
- Challenge non-standard customization and require a documented business case for exceptions.
- Prioritize the PLM improvement backlog jointly with business and IT stakeholders.
- Escalate unresolved lifecycle, data-quality, compliance and adoption risks to the designated steering forum.
Education & Experience - B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial or a related engineering discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Operations, Systems or Business Administration is preferred.
- Relevant PLM, configuration management, change management or program leadership certification is desirable.
- 15-20 years of relevant experience, with substantial responsibility in PLM, engineering systems, product development processes, configuration management or digital engineering transformation.
